I kinduv read 1984 because it was part of the english course but I really didn't like it and thought it was quite petrid so I don't like the idea of this either but yeah that book was liked by lots of weirdos whoops I mean people so all the power to you and don't worry too much about my post cause I'm just passing by and find it hard to ever look at a thread without leaving some of my raunchy comments to make people scratch their heads and feet and wonder what is wrong with me.

thanks for the map firefly. Orwell did solve the problem of the states collapsing because each state had its own pillar of strength to keep it alive. I remember East Asia was strong because of the huge amout of workers and the fact that sheer man power helped dominate the other nations, Eurasia thrived because of its resources and Oceania survived due to the sheer size of its territory. I think wonders for the different ministrys would be mandatory(Ex. ministry of truth reduces corruption thriughout the empire but makes citizens unhappy and increases maintinance costs.) Cruise missiles would also be a major player, and each city should have a couple of policemen acting as "thought police". oh and a quote

"Next question.
Does Big Brother exist?
Of course he does, he is a manifestation of the party and the party will always exist.
I mean is he a manifestation, does he occuppy space like I do, does he really exist?
He does exist, you however do not exist."

I have a near finished Big Brother leaderhead on my desktop, just haven't gotten around to actually placing it in the game. I do have a bit of an idea for a Eurasia leaderhead as well. I was actually thinking about doing this myself but I never felt I would have the time to do it, so I'm glad to see someone else take on the idea :)

I think it's funny that that strip of gray through Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Mongolia could be disputed territory, and yet England, scant few miles from a sea of red, is not.

Uhlalaa': it's very good that you are yet here. About Eurasia, he could be called Great Comrade (or something similar, better if Russian tovarish), and look like a mix between Lenin and Napoleon. (BB is a mix between Hitler and Stalin). For Eastasia, he could be called Sacred emperor (japanese) or Loved chairman (China) and it could be a mix between Mao and Gengis Khan.

BTW, if you want flag leaderheads, this are

Oceania:

Eurasia:

And the file: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/1984.ace

They are from www.flagspot.net , Eastasia will be a my creation.

this is truly awesome, I never knew there was so much info and stuff related to the book. I think I'm going to ask TETurkhan if we could borrow his world map (with cities) for the scenario. Besides that are there flags for east asia? I also think that the fire base in the vietnam scenario would make a good floating fortress, we'd just have to increase the size.

It is true that it is not disputed but Eurasian rocket bombs pound the city constantly.

Hmmm ... I've been giving some thought to the nature of the three militaries.

1. They're bound to be nearly identical in force structure (see below).
2. Based on the experieince of NATO vs. Warsaw Pact armies, command & control is likely to be concentrated at the highest possible level, with individual initiative (and the resultant tactics) discouraged.
3. The world of 1984 isn't even as militarily advanced as the world of 1948 when the book was written. I take as evidence of that that the "floating fortresses" are the supreme naval unit, aircraft carriers and attendant naval aviation being unmentioned.
4. Running these police states was obviously horribly expensive in terms of resources for monitoring entire populations etc. Little technological innovation is likely to have gone into any of the militaries -- especially if the common goal was a state of constant warfare. So I personally imagine 1940-esque Soviet-style tanks (just to give a nice variety) with human wave infantry attacks, and weapons such as helicopters and rockets being used en masse.

I thought the whole of India was supposed to be part of the disputed region? Isn't there speak in the book of it being all under Oceanian control at some point?
*warning spoiler ahead  "

Yes at the end of the book when WInston is sitting at the Cafe he hears a news report saying that Oceania has captured most of India. Wars are also fought in the world of 1984 with small squads of SEAL-esque forces, floating fortresses, and rocket bombs. Apparently bombers don't play a big part and I'm not sure that tanks would be very efficient(I.E. they get hammered by rocket bombs) The game would probobly be won if you captured ALL the disputed territory.

I'm a bad modder (except maybe in Civ2), but I love the book and can probably help with the stroy or the setup.

So start the interrogation :)

Btw the map is cool but eurasia has northern africa....

okay let's layout a rough list of things we need:
Civilizations:
Icons and info for Eurasia, Oceania, and East asia
Tech tree:
Ideas for tech tree and some icons
Units:
Rocket bombs, floating fortresses, SEAL squads, thought police, civ specific units

This is a lot of stuff but I'll make a rough outline of the map and post it here.

Great.... just tell me one thing, is it a battle scenario or a development/tech scenario?

(Barbarians i.e. soldiers of disputed regions also need to be present)

mostly a battle scenario, what techs will be develvoped will be for a stronger control over the populace or for military units.

For Eastasia I have in mind to use a mix between China and Japan flags.

here's a basic map. I took the Nazi world map and renamed a few civs and placed cities with thier respective empires. Since Oceania is powerful just because of its size I placed most of the disputed territory with Eurasia or East Asia. I hope this helps!
