Sorry about the length of the subject line...
I'm a very lucky man:) Both myself and my wife adore this game and we play it to death. We bought 2 copies of the game so that we could play it simultaneously; one on our PC and one on our laptop.
Well, you imagine our excitement when PTW was announced. We both have differing styles and are quite keen to do this.
My questions are these;
Do I need to buy two copies of PTW for us to play against each other, or will one do?
We are in the UK and we will play using a simple 2 computer LAN.
What patches should I be applying?
Thanks in advance;
Tanky

Yes you need two copies of PTW as that is the CD you use to play. If it is any consolation, in my Diablo II days, i bought 3 of the expansion pack!

Ha, np, but remember to get the 1.14f patch.. you can get it here or at firaxis.com
Cheers, have fun

Please excuse my ignorance... in Canada we get the US version i suppose, with bilingual attachments... Has the UK not gotten a patch yet? OTher european countries have i think.
At any rate, he plays over a LAN rather than strict MP though gamespy, so he should be alright.

But Amazon.co.uk are selling it! I realise they are not the most ethical firm in the world, but surely they wouldn't sell a version that they know won't work.

HAHHA, yes, amazon and their morals...

In Canada, we have laws restricting the ownership of book publishing companies in order to prevent huge american conglomerates from taking over our publishing business and driving out any sort of culture from it. Amazon.com found a loophole, allowing it to set up several 'canadian' businesses, none of which employ a single person or maintain any places of business here, and voila, amazon.ca

Ah, the spirit of the law.

To clear this up. the Play the World Expansion bought with Amazon WILL work. But you will need to download the European 1.14 patch, which I think you will find on infogrames.de. The Patch for the US version will NOT work on the British even though it is still English Launguage.

Have fun playing. I want someone to do that with here as... Well, my internet sucks.

Yeah, I've found a European patch which I've downloaded in preparation for the visit from nice Mr Parcelforce.
BTW, this was amazon.co.uk...just to make that clear :)

if you're a European you might want to get the German version of PTW - it contains the German as well as the UK Addon (2 CD-ROMs), and both of them can be installed (at least in my case, Windows XP with Civ3 running on two local machines) together with an englisch original of Civ3.

if you're bilingual, that is ...

Thats funny...I play just fine with one copy of PTW. The only thing is the host machine must use the CD, but the other machine can play fine without it.

Just a final word as I started this thread...
2x PTW did arrive and were duly installed. 1.14 patch was making the "insert CD error" untill I re-downloaded the patch today and it works fine, maybe I had the wrong one (although the filenames were the same).
Myself and the missus (TankBuster and Cuddlemonster) have had a nice little LAN game today, as yet unfinished. The PC kept connecting to the 'net while we were playing, so our MP lobby was full of chat all the time, but overall, a good experience and a good buy. Thanks to all here who helped out!
