My story:
My civ is slowing a lot down in late game just as lots of others computers are experiences. (am i right!?) So i posted here, and was told my laptop was not capable of running the game smoothly. Too little memory (512mb RAM) and too weak a graphic card (X300) was my main problems.
So i called DELL and asked if there was anything to do and the guy said I could upgrade my memory to 2048mb ram. But my graphic card could not be replaced on my Inspiron 6000 laptop, but nor did he think it was neccecary. But from what I've read on this forum it seems the ATI radeon X300 is not capable of running high demanding games.

My question:
Will upgrading my memory to 2 gig make this and other new games run smootly?
Or should i save my money and wait to i can afford a new computer if X300 is too weak for modern games?

Check my dxdiag, I havent done any upgrades yet.

It the game slows down in the later game, it is either a CPU or RAM problem. So upgrading into 2gb would increase performance a lot. If the game plays well from the start to the middle ages, your radeon is up for the task. And you can always lower graphics settings.

I won't suggest you to add more ram. Many people have posted in this forum that they have 1GB Ram but still have slow down.

I'd suggest you to use low graphic settings in Civ4 and see if it helps.

The first thing i did was ofcourse lower the graphic settings to the lowest low. That didnt help much. Does anybody know if i can play civ and newest games smoothly with the x300?

As I posted on an earlier thread, I've had no trouble running Civ4 on highest details with an x300. Just make sure AA is turned off.

Definitely increase your memory...

But expecting the latest games to run well on a laptop is, to be honest, somewhat optimistic...

What's AA?

It makes the graphics appear less jagged, but at the cost of a performance hit.

The latest games run fine on good laptops, just like they run fine on good desktops. You can get a 7800 Ultra on a laptop. That runs anything.

just save ur money and get a diff. computer later. i have an ooooollllld dell my self and i pretty much just use it b/c it is cheaper than other brands, but it's cheaper for a reason.....
