No and no again :D

Plus Dresden is the wrong month ;)

The first use of "window" during the Hamburg raids in 1943?

Nope :)

I have mentioned this before on the forum actually, not in this thread or section (ie history) though

The sight of the parachutes of the Market Garden participants?

Indeed. "It never snows in September" later became the title for Robert Kershaw's excellent work on the campaign from the German Perspective. The rest of the quote, which came from a V2 company solider was something like "they must be paratroopers".

This Russian general, captured in June 1942, collaborated with
the Germans in attempting to form an anti-Stalin army. Who
is he?

Was it Vlassov  ?

Yep. Go ahead.

Vlassov surrendered to the US 7th Army but was handed back to the Russians
in accordance with an agreement made at Yalta :( . He was hanged, along
with 6 other generals, in August 1946. Interesting guy.

Here is one for you Britishers- What aircraft carrier was designed to maintain
and repair fleet aircraft in the field? :scan:

You got it cid ! :goodjob: Your turn now.

British aircraft carrier, designed to maintain and repair fleet aircraft in the
field. The Unicorn entered Royal Navy service in 1943 and was used as an
operational carrier until the end of the year, before adopting her designed
role to good effect with the British carrier squadron in the Pacific :coffee:

name the Japanese soldier who fought the US even after WW2 was over.
and... ( make it a 2 parter) why he didnt surrender and whom did he surrender to?

Cidknee: I know this story. 3 Japanese soldiers were ordered to hide in the jungle / mountains on some pacific Island in the last days of the war. 2 of them died, but the remaining one stayed there till about 1975. He continued the war because he thought the people trying to convince him the war had ended 30 years ago were spreading propaganda.
A Japanese student or journalist (can't remember) finally convinced him and got him out of the war.

The only thing I don't recall is his name.

Was he the one they had to drag his former commander out to the island so that he could confirm the order?

A Japanese student or journalist (can't remember) finally convinced him and got him out of the war.

He was ordered as a listerning post to collect information. Like most Japanese soldiers at the time indoctrinated to unquestionaly follow orders which he continued to do so. hes was discovered when he made contact with Japanese mission to bury / return there war dead.

I dont believe he did surrender. Instead on hes return to Japan they greeting him as a hero for hes dedication to duty.

i actually have it at work.. but Rik has it right, his name wash ahhi cant remember ill post it later, he was sent there on an espionage mission, listening post but mainly to be a gurella and distroy things the enemy built. Many many many people tried to convince Oonda? ( i think that was his name) But yes a student eventually found him, met with him and arranged to meet with him again, then the student went and found the soldires ex- commanding officer. The student and the Xc.o travelled to where the meet was pre arranged and the guy on the island surrendered his sword to his old C.O.

interesting side note.
one of the 3 soldiers actually gave up and abandoned his friends. The police on the island actually used him to try to get the other 2 to surrender, they thought it to be am ememy trick, so they didnt answer. Ill post a link to the story, it is fascinating.
and yes he was treated as a hero when he returned...even wrote a book IIRC

ok his name was Hiroo Onoda.... heres a link to his story.
