I seem to be getting the Failed to Allocate Video Memory crash to desktop bug.

I only started getting this bug after installing v3.03. I have now installed v3.13 however I still get the CTD. I have not changed any of my graphics settings since going to 3.13. Turning off the Wonder movies subjectively seems to reduce the number of CTD's that I get.

My System Specs:
Dual Core Opteron 165
2GB DDR400 System Ram
256MB 7800GT

I don't know of any game that Requires more than 256Mb of VRAM to operate, which is pretty standard given that there are only a handful of cards that have more RAM than this.

It tells me that I should try reducing graphics settings, which really is a load of bullocks, because I had never had any trouble running the game at the current settings until 3.03. The settings I run the game at are:

1920x1440 resolution
All graphics settings on high, with 4xAA.

This doesn't comfort you, but you are not alone...

Apparently this has been a common problem since V1.0 of Civ4, but I only started getting it after V3.03.

I never used to get them before BTS came along. Now they happen all the time.

I confirm this bug still ruins my game too ... Been through all the tips given in this forum, but it only delays the crash by some turns.
Just one question : whose fault should it be considered to be ? Firaxis' or ATI/Nvidia's ?

I became disatisfied with the QA on Civ releases with the first Civ 4 release, to the extent I stopped playing it and went to GalCiv (superb QA and support from Stardock). I had been a Civ fan and user ever since Civ 1.

However I do enjoy the Civ series, so when BTS came out, I thought I would try once more, and installed it - Nightmare, waste of money for me. I have upgraded the various "patches" as they are released, now on V3.13. Continuous CTDs, bluescreens, every few moves (moves not turns ..... ). Its unplayable.

PC is rock solid, I only have this hassle with Civ BTS (AMD FX60, 2Gb ram, 1Tb Raid, dual 7800GTS SLI, all upto date versions and patches). I'm tired of being unpaid QA for Firaxis, so I am dumping this for good, and staying with Galactic Civilisations and its developer Stardock.

From my viewpoint its a sad situation, I still like the concepts of the Civ series very much, but as time as gone on, the QA in Civ has got worse and worse as they sell out to commercialy driven priorities, not their fanbase. Stardock can give superb QA and support with a third the size of development team, and Firaxis should be able to as well if the will was there.

Sadly there is increasing evidence they have sold out to shareholder pressure, and the fanbase is only a marketers playtoy, the PR rep's soundbite generator & the business manager's route to bonus happiness.

Quoted for perfect truth! I feel the same. The only difference being that I don't yet have GalCiv. I sense that GalCiv will totally replace all of my Civing needs. As it is now I do not play Civ anymore. Civ is dead to me. I would destroy my disks in private protest if not for the FfH mod.

And to be on topic.. yes I am getting MAF'd and WOC'd by BTS Mods.
(Memory Allocation Failure... Waiting for Other Civilizations)
