This problem happens in a game within mod "Gods of Old", however I can not tell if it comes from the mode or from BTS.
version 3.13

Problem:
Brennus, my vassal, capitulated several turns ago.
I took cities on another continent, formerly Egypt. Brennus has 0 culture and cities in this continent.
As soon as I grant independence to some cities, Brennus breaks free and we are immediately at war!!!
I am at war against him whatever city I grant independence to, on any continent, and any time in the time until the end: I had a time victory, and when I tried at the last round, we were in state of war as soon as I grant independence to a city located on the other side of the map!!
He is far from reaching the 50% independence triggers.
He is "friendly" with 27 green vs 8 red points.

Reproducing the problem:
Load my saved game, F1, then grant independence to Thebes, Elephantine. Brennus will break free and state of war.

Why is it a bug?
Manual and civilopedia state:
"(...) If the vassal refuses to pay this tribute, the agreement immediately ends and a state of war automatically results between the two parties.
That is the only case where a state of war can result between a master state and a vassal state
"
In this game, Brennus declares war when you grant independence to external cities, not when you try to make any trade...
According to the log file (pic 2), I declared war on Brennus !!

Valamas, congratulations for having digged out this thread and added on it without adding 1 more thread to the already long long forum...:)

Ori, it is a good idea, but I do NOT advise it if, like me, you like to use mods built on a specific official patch, ex.: Fall From Heaven 2 , where installing unofficial patches would destabilised the mod...

However, it is good to know that it has been fixed somewhere, as when you reprt a bug, you barely know if it is really a bug or an effect of your imagination.
As I posted the bug almost 2 months ago and never had an answer/feedback, I thought it was ok to have this kind of behavior (sic!)... Happy to know that if it has been "fixed", it was then wrong... and I was not ...

most of those mods will (i.e. those that use a custom .dll) will likely include some or most of Bhruic's work. All others should not be affected by his patch at all and those that have a dll simply ignore his patches. But in any case - install it as another mod and you can use it without any problems for your non-modded games while waiting for an official patch (which needs to address this but has been hinted here at being off some time into the future)...

thank you for noticing. I opened every page in my IE as tabs and looked for any thread mentioning "Vassal". 23 tabs ;)

this bug has been fixed in Bhruic's unofficial patch, just install it :)

I use that patch. I still get this bug, in a slightly different version:

I conquer a barbarian island (2 cities). I grant independence. At this moment (while the new leader diplo screen comes up) I am shown declaring war on an unrelated civ and its vasal.

Select the two barb cities (only ones to build muskets, so they are easy to find), grant independence.

ori has given this explanation elsewhere:
2) A few Civs have already been eliminated so I assume you have fallen victim to the following bug: when anyone creates a colony in BtS after another Civ has been eliminated the new colony will take over the ID of the eliminated Civ this includes the state of diplomacy that one had when it was eliminated, most likely the AI created a new colony and it reincarnated a Civ you were previously at war with. You might want to install Bhruic's Unofficial patch (stickied in the main BtS forum)

I have the patch installed, though!

please post this hereas well (or just a link to this thread) - I am sure Bhruic will have a look at this as well - if that is an instance that he has not yet fixed... If these are barbarian cities it is possible that somehow you reincarnate a Barb civ and that this is not covered by his fixes. If that is the case it will probably be soon - if he is made aware of it ;)
I'll load the save tonight and see if it is reproducible (which I assume, but its always better to check ;)).

The save is after the fact - you already released the colony - so I could not check whether this really happens with the 1.11 version of Bhtuic's patch, but it sure does look like the same thing. A pre-colony save would be good though :)
