Return of an old bug. All promotions are lost when upgrading troops.

Could you be more specific, some promotions are designed to not be carried over.

What unit, what promotion?

upgrading a warrior to a swordsman, lost march, blitz, drill, cover. Not unique promotions, not unique unit.

Are you using any other mods?

None of those promotions should be lost. (Which is why you posted obviously.:mischief:)

If you have a saved game and/or your logs could you attach them to this thread?

I'm getting the same error too. Just started happening when I upgraded CAT to 3.14.1 today. Didn't happen before. I didn't update any of the other 3 mods (CEG, MAP, or Interface).

It's also possible that it could be related to an incompatibility with an update in the core game. It also installed a new update today for the core game.

Thinking about this issue further...

I was playing a game and everything was working fine. I saved the game, then came back to it later. When I re-opened the game, Steam installed some update from Firaxis. Then, I re-loaded my saved game. In the saved game, promotions were not being carried over to upgraded units. All promotions are lost. The mod does not affect saved games because I've tried to make slight modifications many times to a saved game and it does not work. I always have to re-start a new game for the changes to show up. So any change to the mod would not cause the promotions bug. It has to be an incompatibility with a recent update from Firaxis to the core game.

my issue was following an auto-update on Steam. deleting and reinstalling from the github build solved the problem. It appears the version pushed by Steam wasn't identical (though both were labelled 3.14.1) or else it did not install properly.

So are you saying the Steam version had this problem but after installing from GitHub it is now fixed?

Very strange. The code should be identical.

I can't see it being the Firaxis update either, though I may be wrong. All that did was give us a new improved "New World Conquest" with some additions to some units and other minor details. All in preparation for the 'Civilization V: Complete' to be released shortly.

Maybe EricB will be able to track it down, as he had it occur also.:goodjob:

I concur with Hreat that it's a problem with the Steam auto-update. When I got to a new location and booted up the game, then I went to load the mods. The CAT mod had 'update' next to it, so I clicked update. It quickly downloaded something. Then, when I started playing the loaded, saved game promotions for units were not being carried over. I figured that it had to have something to do with the Firaxis update, which updated right before I updated CAT. I didn't even think of the possibility that updating via Steam would be different than a manual update. I tend to do both BTW.

:hmm:

It is possible Thal has made some adjustments and pushed a release through on Steam.

I'm sure all will be revealed shortly. At any rate if want to they can use the GitHub release.
I would prefer them being kept in sync though.

I'm still getting this issue of promotions not being carried over on unit upgrades. I deleted the CAT mod, unsubscribed from Steam, and re-downloaded it manually from Github. Then, I started a new game. Still the same problem.

It's strange in that the experience carries over, but the promotions do not. For example, I upgraded a warrior to a swordsman. The warrior had 34 experience, which translated to a Drill 1 promotion and a Cover promotion. When upgrading, the Swordsman had 34 experience still but no promotions. Not sure what the problem is. I was using the latest version of CAT on github.

So what method is used to determine which promotions are not carried over?
Is it just the FlagPromotion icons above the unit or also in the unit display at bottom-left?

What does the combat display tooltip reveal when bringing that unit into a battle situation? Do the figures show the strength is modified but not by what? Or is the unit strengths reverted back to a pre-promotion state?

In other words, are the actual promotions stripped or just invisible?
