30 days without videogames

I would just sleep more probably

UPDATE, on the 30 days thingie:

I haven't played squat since Feb 21, but yesterday while researching the Unity engine I discovered that it actually allows you play games in a browser. As if they were just regular ass games, none of that flash stuff:

Sucker Punch, the game

Even that terrible movie Suckerpunch managed to have a horrible tie-in videogame, but on a browser!. So of course I had to see for myself how it played out. I am now working on a game using Unity and just had to know if Unity had the chops. Mid through this I realized I was playing a videogame without knowing (a bad videogame at that). Videogames are everywhere man!, give me the Amish life, I say.

Of course this means the entire thing re-started, because it was an honest mistake, so you'll hear more about it on April 15. Which is lame, but we are talking about a lame bet here to begin with. I wish I would had mistakenly played something better, but nope, it had to be SuckerPunch. Then again I'm thinking that a lot of people that had similar bets but with movies also made the same mistake and went to see Suckerpunch, effectively resetting their bets too (which would explain the 40 bucks it got that opening weekend).

I have been enjoying not playing videogames though, so there's that. I've been having lots of time for working and got to read that John Wilkes Booth biography I've been meaning to read for the longest time, he just kills president Lincoln that one (spoiler alert). I'm also starting to learn Blender, got into making myself coffee with real beans (did you guys knew you can use real beans for coffee making?, revelation for me!) and I may retake trying to learn C# again.

I eventually began to play videogames again?

I didn't honor the thing of not playing until April 15... because I'm a terrible person and in the end I realized that the bet was ass (I just honored the original 30 day line). Which is why I was hoping that this thread would go away. But as we all know The J also mods my life, so there's that.

After the bet was over, I went on a bit of a binge and purchased:

Deus Ex 1: Installed, but have not played.
Deus Ex 2: Same as above... will probably never play.
Deus Ex HR: Played for about 20 hours, in fact the first game I played after the bet, but then re-started the game in hard mode and then I got bored (Jensen, you run too slowly!).
Rise of Legends: Which is THE BOMB, playing it whenever I can (plus, Baltimore represent yo!)
D&D 6 game collection: have not even open it.
Dragon Age 1: Installed today, installation was 24 gigabytes (!). I might play it?
Dragon Age 2: Installed today. Same as above.
Total Annihilation Kingdoms: Played it twice, it has not aged well at all, it's pretty boring actually.
American Conquest: I was really eager to play this one, but it crashes on the main menu. I spent a ridiculous amount of time looking for a fix, but no dice. In fact I regret every purchase I've ever made at Gog.com!, either the games won't work or they are boring (plus I get charged an extra 50 cents for every purchase for whatever reason).
Fallout 2: Purchased, but have not played. Also purchased brotherhood of steel (damn you Gog!).
Dungeon Siege 1:Installed it, crashed on me and life is too short to look for a fix online.
Dungeon Siege 2: Installed it, have not played it.
Dungeon Siege 3: I actually played this one, looks just like Diablo 3 (but this one was released before... weird). Quit playing after a few minutes, it felt a lot like a zynga game.
Trine: Purchased, but have not even installed it.
Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines: have not installed, but I'm saving some brain room for this one.

So yeah, I think I'm all purchased out, I mean I should play at least half of those at some point to quell at least half the shame. Weirdly enough I really wanted to play games after the bet was over, but that kinda lasted until last week. Now I'm kinda playing games in a casual way. Half the games I purchased was to look for references for that indy game I'm working on (coming to you 2078!), so a lot of fantasy and RTS related material (erm... to "research" there).

Also got the entire show of that Dungeons and Dragons animated series:

Which to my surprise... not a bad show at all.

Sometimes I think about quitting video games, but I know I can't. A girl I know thinks I'm like a kid because I play computer games. Luckily, she finds my kid side cute and lovable. But I do think that women don't really respect men who play computer games. One of these days I may give them up. But then what? Go to a bar drinking? How is that a good activity to do? How is that more adult than computer games? I could watch tv, but TV sucks compared to computer games.

Who are these people that don't like videogames?, there's always a videogame for everyone.

Notice this is the "pro" version.

In time I've played a lot of games with my wife, but here's the catch, you can't be all like "let's play Duke Nukem Forever, honey!", it has to be games your significant other can enjoy as well (but then again no one really enjoys playing Duke Nukem Forever...).

So in short, the games I've played with my wife!:

Neverwinter Nights 1&2
Diablo 2
Plants vs Zombies
Spore
Arcanum
Peggle

I did try Civ IV, but no dice.

I don't think I could survive, but at least you didn't ban the whole Internet. Mess around on Youtube and stuff, just don't watch any LPs.

You managed to stand longer than I expected.
Many girls I know play video games, well perhaps not games like CoD or some hardcore strategy games, but Wii games are quite "girl compatible". Adventures and the Sims also seem to be popular.

If most girls don't play games it is only due to people not expecting them to like them, thus they don't get introduced to them at a young age like guys tend to.

Funnily enough it was my mum who first introduced me to strategy games, all be it RTS's.

I see a lot of young girls play games, but not many my age. The chances of me getting my girl into computer games is nil. But she is into other stuff in my bedroom (my computer is in my bedroom) I like to do, that's good enough for me.
