I have been playing Civ II practically since it came out, with a relative of mine that I don't see very often. However, we play Civ II from time to time online (more often lately). We always play against each other, because it's hard to find other people to play that will actually put in some sort of effort to finish a game.
Anyway, we've come up with an idea. We want to parter up and play against another team of two.
To make it more interesting, we'd like to put in a $50.00 wager (ie: $50.00 x 4 = $200). If we win, we will play each other for the $200
If you win, you may split the money between yourselves as partners, or you can play a game between yourselves to see who should get the lot. That is up to you.
It's no big money. It's just to add a bit of interest to the game. It's not about the money. It should help to keep people In the game and make sure they play until they finish.
If you are interested, we'd like to play weekends, and maybe some weeknights, depending on where you and your partner are in the world.
We play the following settings:
Deity
Raging Hordes
Normal Production
Large Map (90 x 110)
7 Civ's
Space Race on
Unlimited time
We also make a rule saying that we may not take AI cities, unless they have built directly on your mainland. ie: You can't take over another Civ. We find it more interesting if the AI is there to distract our plans during the end of the game.
Note: Although we play unlimited time, we do get up each other about taking too long. We simply use the system: be as quick as you can.
I would hate to call this gambling. It's not really intended to make money or to gamble. It's only $50.00, and we hope that maybe this will be a good incentive for us to find some good players that will stay in the game and do their best.
We also feel that if someone put in $50.00 they wouldn't just quit a game because of some trivial thing they didn't like.
