~500 science beakers around turn 200 ? 1700+ in turn 260 ???

I've just looked at a Madjinn Let's Play, with Poland. The title says it all : I don't see how he can achieve such thing whereas I watched at the whole thing. Tried it multiple times but the only way i can do it is in Settler difficulty with lots of free settlers from city ruins and spamming cities. If I play on Prince, I hit ~200 beakers around turn 200 at best.

But how can you do ???

One possibility is that the video was before last fall's BNW patch that nerfed RAs from mean value down to minimum value. On settler these would now be completely useless while before it would have provided a decent amount of beakers to reach science buildings faster.

Getting past 200 science beakers though just means building Science buildings everywhere, running all scientist specialists, and going Rationalism.

That's really the sum total of the answer. I suspect folks too frequently don't beeline NC and Education and/or delay building or buying science buildings until it seems convenient, don't work their science specialists (perhaps at all, or not until much later), and mess around with other policy trees besides Rationalism. Yes, other trees have their own nice bonuses, but they can't match Rationalism for science.

as a rule of thumb I think your beakers should be passing the turn number by 150 latest. and getting up to 500 at 200 isn't difficult if you work science specialists, and he probably went into secularism. Also you can get around 1500 bpt late game with 4 city Korea.

How many cities do you build? I tend to think people that are behind in science may not be planting enough cities. Even with tradition I usually aim for 6 cities. With at least 20 pop in each and at least 30 in the capital that is 130 base breakers before buildings/improvements/policies.

No, it's not caused by too few cities but instead too much population isn't in cities with max possible science benefits for your tech. 4 cities are plenty to get you above 1100 BPT by late game even if you have no mountains for observatories.

Now getting to 1700 like Madjinn did does require more than 4 cities, but the additional ones don't have to be self built. Might even work better if someone else built them and you annexed at a point where they wouldn't interfere with national wonder construction.

That's what I get building science buildings ASAP in every of my cities, running specialist and choosing Rationalism (ASAP also, policy saving ON)

Make sure the populations of your cities are high. Focus on food tiles as much as out can, especially in your capital. So, finish out the tradition tree, try to settle by rivers and, if so, build farms and get to civil service early. Maybe set the tile focus in your city screen to food. Make sure you have your food buildings soon. Try to settle your capital and other cities on the coast and then send food cargo ships to your capital and maybe other cities. (You can use food caravans if your capital isn't on the coast.)

Happiness, working food tiles and belonging (and building) science techs. Spamming cities for the same bpt is bad because each city would increase the science tech cost

At turn 200 you should have at least cap 25+pop and three other cities 15+pop.

4 cities - Tradition - waste 1/2 policies - Rationalism. With Liberty it's tight and you'll need aqueducts.

With this on Prince you can get 200bpt T130, 600 T160, 1000 T210. Don't take IronfighterXXX too seriously, he's out of reach for you and me.

One factor that hasn't been mentioned yet is that it's actually easier to tech up faster on deity because the AI will have more gold and luxury resources to trade you for strategic/luxury resources, city states will get out workers faster for you to steal, and early external trade routes can give you science benefits. If you can, well, not die early in deity, you will be able to get a whole lot more science beakers on deity than on prince.

Now, winning on deity is a different story, because the computers have so many advantages too, but in terms of pure amount of science beakers by turn x, turning up the difficulty actually helps you get more of those faster.

The idea is basically to grow all game long, hit renaissance after completing tradition so that you can get rationalism as fast as possible. And make sure to synchronise your libraries with philosophy for a well timed national college.

Work food tiles, and send food caravans to the capital. 40+ requires coastal starts, but low 30's can be done for inland.

As to growth, it's probably that, but even with my low pop cities i run out of happiness in order to have so much pop in all cities... GH always has been an issue for me.

Scientist specialists funded by enough food, universities, laboratories, public schools and observatories all can add up to many science beakers per turn. Academies in national college areas along with a oxford university can increase your science at high capacity. Specialists full in these buildings also increase science. Saving great scientists for a later era can also increase more science since bulbing great scientist for free techs later gives more science than the earlier turns..
