I have a Sempron 2600+ 1GB of Ram WinXpSP2 and a 5200FX with 128mb
i get very horrible frame rate no matter what the graphics are at. right now. All Low and 1024x768 and all effect turned off. is there anything im doing wrong cuz it says that i have reccomended specs. Is my vid card just bad?

my same Gfx card, my problem isnt frame rate but my PC shutting off after a few hours of play

really? well i could deal with overheating but at this rate the game is unplayable.
i get like 4fps

Yes im haveing the same problem, fps is like 15 max but im running a 5700LE with 256 video ram, 1 gig reg ram, 2.4 Ghz P4. Heres to hopeing the next patch fixes this.

I had one of those cards and upgraded. Problems with Civ stopped after the upgrade. Many users are having problems with the GF5 series cards, more so with 5200 which isn't a good 3D card. I would recommend a 6600 if you going to think about upgrading.
Try using 'Rivatuner' and force those shaders down to 1.1, it does help with the performance.

I have a very similar setup ( Sempron 2800+, 512mb PC3200, Geforce FX 5200) and have the same problems, no matter the settings ultra high or ultra low my fps is always 7-10 according to fraps, the Geforce FX 5200 is an extremely good card for its price and I know I can get a much higher fps on it, I can run Half-Life 2 at Med-high settings on 1280x800 and get a steady 40fps and civ4 isnt even that graphical except for the shaders it uses, its more poor code than a bad video card, btw if you decide to upgrade go with the Geforce 7800gs AGP it has just been released but as the price goes down its your best bet the XFX version at NewEgg.com just went down $10 today...

I have a 7800GT ( I had 5200fx on my old pc which I gave away and got 10-12 fps) and notice my GPU runs hotter on new empty maps especially topical maps than late game maps. I believe this is becuase most of the trees and jungles get chopped late in the game. It's seems the tree and jungle animation puts very high demands on your GPU which sadly can't be turn off though the graphic settings. IMO 5200FX is just too low end to handle all the tree/jungle animation.
Late in the game more cities and units slows the game down as it demands more ram while makes less demands from your GPU.

Okay, I have a fx5200 as well, and my Civ is quite playable, at least up to and including standard-size maps, and <12 civs. My other specs are 2.4ghz celeron (insert laught track), 1 gig RAM. I run on low textures and gfx, and I have also used the Rivatuner to roll back my pixel shaders to ver 1.1. I think using the Rivatuner had the biggest impact on my ability to play. In addition, this week I downloaded a mod that uses low-texture trees. I forget who wrote it this second, but you can find easily in the forums here.

Worldbuilder is extremely slow with the f5200, so I have no desire to cheat... other than that, I have been satisfied with the card. I also can play Rome:Total War, HalfLife 2, and even FarCry on low settings.

My fx5200 is a pci... I can't even upgrade to a agp card, but CIV ON!

I have a fx5200 and the game has strage graphics and lines flashing all over the screen constantly.. any ideas what that is from.. yes i have all the updates drivers, chipset, bios everything... still can barely read the intro screen ??
