Welcome to the 6otM103 Opening Actions thread.

STOP - Please do not continue reading this thread until you have completed at least 80 to 100 turns in your game.

This thread is used to discuss the game once you've started playing through your first 100 turns. Apart from normal decency, the only posting restrictions are to please not post videos until the deadline is finished and to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. Please remember that we are running a family friendly site, so express anger or frustration with this in mind.

Please use this thread to discuss your goals for the game and your opening moves through the first 100 turns. Anything after that should be posted in the After Actions thread once you have completed your game.

- What was your plan for achieving a Domination VC? What are the major steps you planned to take? What events, if any, changed the plan in execution and to what new plan? Any interesting decision points?
- How did the leader bonus and civ unique ability impact your plan/play, if at all?
- Where did you settle your capital city? Why? Your second city? Why?
- Early order for technology/civics? What did you prioritize for technology/civics?
- What was your early build order in your capital and other early cities? Military units / Civilian units / Districts & city development / Wonders / Civ Unique Unit & Infrastructure? Most critical or interesting?
- Pantheon chosen and why? Religious beliefs chosen, and why?
- What governments did you select? What policy cards did you use? Why?
- Which Governors did you choose and why did you choose them?
- How long did it take to find your neighbors? What did you do for early diplomacy/trading? Peace or War (and by you or them)?
- How did no City-States impact your play?
- When did you have Dark/Golden ages?
- How were the Barbarians?
- Any surprises/frustration/elations?

Please use spoiler tags for any surprise details you'd like kept hidden. Thanks.

Settled closer to the Faith, to hopefully get Religious Settlements. Missed, even with finding a Relic in a Tribal Village. Took swamp Hammers as a consolation prize.

Couldn't really get the Scouting done I needed. A Normal Classical and a Dark Medieval meant my 1 charge Builders weren't the "Scouts" I rely on.

I'm not sure if I can recover from the heartbreak of missing Petra by a few turns. I'm going to go cry in my beer and see if I can regain the will to continue.

Spoiler Petra! Nooo! :

Went up one tile to the norteast to settle as well. Got the earliest relic I probably ever got and could choose my pantheon on turn 9! With everything available I still chose Lady of Reeds and Marshes over Religious Settlements, cause when would I take it, if not while having 9 marsh tiles next to my capital, 5 of which improvable. Took Reliquaries and Missionary Zeal for religion.

I am settling very wide with all this space available, but I underestimated the problems with the barbs you get from doing that. This, the overall lack of production, and the late political philosophy really slowed my settling down and I am onla at 5 citys at turn 100. Half of what I usually aim at in a peaceful game.

Missed classical and medieval golden ages by 2 points each, which really hurts. I am focusing Theater squares and Holy sites, cause who needs science, especially as korea.
My scouts got lost between all these mountains and lakes and died fairly early, so my Apostles will need to scout now.

Will be able to chop Temple of Mahabodhi in 2 turns, Mt. St. Michael is researched and followes next, and Petra still takes 11 turns. With Casualty of War losing it on turn 121 I will hopefully get it.

Arrrgh. Rage quit t47.

I thought I was off to a great start finding a relic turn 3. But at the same time a barb scout found my capital and headed north. so I headed my warrior north to hunt him down. I thought I got lucky again finding a goody hut in front of the barb camp. I snatched the gold there (turn 7 I think). And then before I get even one attack in on the barb camp, it spawns two(2) horsemen! They proceed to hunt down my warrior and kill him. the next 30 turns or so I spend fighting the barbarian hordes coming from multiple directions. Just when I got them defeated (around t43?) Teddy shows up marching on my capital with an army of warriors, spearmen, and archers. He declares war and my capital falls t47. I had no chance of getting it back with my remaining city and next to no military.

I'm going to try this one again. I think I'll skip the relic this time and head straight for the barb camp :)

Sounds like my experience in a couple of my attempts. My barb scout nemesis was to the east and the camp was only 2 tiles further. Rather than attack the scout on t2, I took a village, thinking I could turn back and intercept him. I didn't know the camp was so close. So... At one time my capitol was dealing with spawning from 3 directions at once. On another attempt, I just got in the way putting a warrior between the barb scout and my city, and he scouted in a different direction. Lesson: on high difficulty levels, I need to always chase and kill every barb scout, preferably before they find my city. The villages will still be there for later.

Settled closer to the faith tile. Had the option to go for religious settlements, but I opted to go for lady of reeds and marshes instead. Way too many marshes, desert flood plains and oasis' to pass it up imo. Did I mention this map is an absolute barbarian nightmare, worst than any deity game I've played thus far haha. Some examples:

Sweden doesn't seem to be having a good time either. Watched them get attacked by barbs for a couple of turns and now Arabia is also attacking them (lol).
