Please remember that we are running a family friendly site, so express anger or frustration with this in mind. :)
Please use this thread to discuss your goals for the game and your opening moves through the first 100 turns. Anything after that should be posted in the After Actions thread once you have completed your game.

Scout
Worker
Settler
Slinger
Slinger
Settler
Worker

Spoiler Gaul Comments/Tips :

The warriors are probably pointless, just use archers. But maybe sometime if my opponent is nearby.
The mines are insane!! Plan your city spots to take advantage of the culture bombs. You can get that 3-distance tile for your size 2 city. And you can make a couple of big bonus mine tiles while you do it.
District placement is different and interesting. How many mines can you surround your districts with? I didn't build wonders but I'm thinking wonders next to city center?
The Oppida is pretty easy to get with a +4 or +5 bonus on this map, focus on quarries and strategic resources.
I don't know how playable this race is on a map with less hills. On this map it's OP.

Spoiler My Story :

By the time I got into the slingers I was already getting the idea that this map is going to be spaced out. I knew the AI's would be smaller on prince, but even goodie huts seemed spaced out. So I changed from my default path which is [5-slinger & a warrior-->archer upgrade-->conquer one AI]. Usually I do this after the first settler, but can even do it earlier if I find someone close. But in this case there's a lot of room. I made a conscious decision to expand to a medium size and just focus on production and science and not get involved in religion. But I did get a pantheon first and I took the +2 for marshes. Between Gallic mines on grassland with their production and culture, 3/2 marsh tiles that don't even require a worker, and volcanic tiles that upgrade themselves, my cities got medium sized and productive quickly. I ended up with 5 big cities with campuses on all, and a mix of commerce and oppida for the others. If you can get a good oppida bonus it's a no brainer to chop a forest and lay one down, pays for itself so fast.

Now entering the mid game my plans are to try to do enough quick religion to keep my marshes pantheon which I realized is critical for my cities. And I'm going to rapidly expand another 5+ cities using the governor promotion because there are some productive spots left. I'm going to use two cities to exclusively crank out settlers & workers and the rest of the cities will grow and prepare for an offensive war with field cannons.

This game is a cake walk. This is probably the best start for production and growth that I have ever seen. If I had it to replay I would be able to expand so rapidly.
