SV, turn 254.

Hadn't intended to play this game, since we just had a Portugal game recently, but decided that it might be a nice palate cleanser after the zombie apocalypse. I'm glad I did, as it proved instructive in a number of ways. Just played it fast and loose- no real pre-planning, but the Prince AIs proved so inert that it didn't matter too much. The more interesting opponent was the map itself, which offered a number of obstacles.

In contrast to tarafran, I didn't see much option to warring with the limited land on offer for peaceful expansion, so headed as soon as practical to Cartography and then to Rocketry. A few Nau and frigates were sufficient to capture most cities- I ended up eliminating Babylon, Sumer and Japan, and left Australia, Vietnam and Norway with one piddling city each. Didn't bother with the others as they were either landlocked or had few worthwhile districts, plus by that time I had all the science I needed anyway.

In fact, this is the first game where my progress to space was limited by my production, and not by science. Didn't even need Globalization- had only 4 turns until Smart Materials when I got to Globalization (after the Moon landing) and only 7 turns to Offworld mission.

Amazingly, culture proved no problem despite that I built not a single theater square. Suzerainty of Kumasi with all of Portugal's trade routes was more than sufficient. Will definitely need to pay more attention to that city state in the future.

Thanks for the game!

SV t285 score 3506
OK, I could have won this a lot earlier, like pre 200t if I went for DV or CV. But as stated in the early actions thread, I tried for my highest score instead. I came up short by 500 pts, but my second highest. I suppose I would have eventually gotten my high score if I didn't just get bored with it. Japan had its capitol and 2 other cities. I left about 8 CS that I was suzerein of. All other cities mine. Turns get real slow at that point. I did take it easy on the wonders since I was about 16 turns from CV for the last 100 turns or so. I could have easily founded a religion but didn't bother. I regret that since my religion score was zero, and would have been the easiest way to get those 500 more points I needed. Oh well... glad I milked it enough so I don't have a long wait for the next one.

CV t217, I realized I hadn't finished this game and the game was still open way past the deadline, so I decided to finish it. Didn't get it done before Leif closed off submissions though :)
I took out Vietnam early. Played peacefully after that. But then I lost patience and just took the easy Culture Victory rather than slog it out to the end with Science.
The trade routes were a lot of fun. Thanks for the game!
