Please use spoiler tags for any surprise details you'd like kept hidden. Thanks.

If this is a replay, please indicate 'REPLAY' at the top of your post. If you conduct regular restarts, please indicate 'RELOADS' at the top of your post. More posting helps us all get play better as we understand the methods of others, but want to clearly distinguish between a first run through without reloads and other submissions as it is much harder to recover in game from the mistakes we all make.

A really fun game. Victoria ability to boost strategic resources is very useful when placing new cities, as a single Horse tile can kickstart your basic structures and districts. The industrial zone boosts are amazing, although I couldn't find time to build them early on, as the discounted Harbours and Campuses took most of the chops/population slots in my cities.

I wiped out everyone except for Egypt, I am not sure if that was better than leaving them for late-game pillages. I also got super unlucky at the very end, as I got all 3 Modern Era Engineers, and not Robert Goddard (+20% space projects). This could have probably shaved off a couple turns in the late game.

Thanks for the game, it was really engaging!

Spoiler Q&A :

- What was your plan for achieving the VC? What are the major steps you planned to take? What events, if any, changed the plan in execution and to what new plan? Any interesting decision points?
After realising that there is little land around me to settle, I decided to go for Kongo. So the plan was to wage war against her with levied units to get some space, and then proceed with spamming Harbors and Campuses (and warmongering).

- What were your initial 5-10 builds in the capital or other early cities?
Scout, Scout, Settler, Settler, Monument. One of the settlers was bought. I was also lucky enough to find a builder in a village, otherwise I probably would have bought one before second Settler.

- Early order for technology/civics? What did you prioritize for technology/civics?
I rushed discovering Iron, even before going into any nautical reasearch. The iron mines are really powerful, also it allowed me to uprgade levied warriors to Swordsmen for my Kongo invasion.

- How did the leader bonus and civ unique ability impact your plan/play, if at all?
Normally, I wouldn't waste production on Hubs/Harbors, but since the half-price discount is changing overall calculation, it is worth building them. Also, I planned my cities around strategics, to boost their early potential.

- How many cities did you settle and/or capture? Where did you settle your first few cities?
I settled aggresively to the south, and also close to the capital. I just followed strongest yields, luxuries and strategics. Overall I conquered all the AI cities except for Egypt (~15-20 cities) and settled about the same (~20).

- What were key production/purchase focuses? Military units / Civilian units / Districts & city development / Wonders / Civ Unique Unit & Infrastructure? Most critical or interesting?
Settlers, Harbors, Campuses. Other than that, Ancestral Hall in Govt. Plaza was probably most critical, along with Kilwa (I rushed and chopped both of them).

- Pantheon chosen and why? Religious beliefs chosen, and why?
Since I was building around Horses, Culture from Pastures was pretty good. No religion.

- Which Governors were most important; when and why?
First Amani to get a suz, then Magnus to get Settlers, then Pingala to get a bit of Culture, then Reyna for district buying.

- Was diplomacy/trading useful? How? Relations with other civs?
At first I traded all the luxes and strategics I could, and established a single friend to continue selling. Then once I started conquering it went south of course.

- When did you have Dark/Golden ages?
All golden Monumentality

- How did the map affect your gameplay?
I put a lot of effort into scouting, and was surprised that the seas were completely irrelevant.

- Any surprises/frustration/elations you ran into, how did you deal with it?
The 2x+20% space race GE was at the bottom of the Great Engineer queue.. bummer.

- Did you enjoy your game?
Yes! :)

This is my second game of the months play. I tried last months Domination/Religious game, but lost just before being able to convert all civilizations.

I had to play the game twice. The first time I fought over a single city with my neighbour for quite some time and couldn't really win becasue of that.

I won the second game at 1942, step 363, I think it was. This was done after I almost wiped out my closest neigbour, explaining why I have 2001 in Science and she has 55.

the biggets difference beetween game 1 and 2 is that in game 2 I managed to build at least 10 Wonders, but not the Ruhr valley.

In this game I also managed to build cities all around the world where there were good Campus sites or where there were good natural wonders.

I had Golden ages in all but two or three eras. That helps. It also helps to go from a Dark age to a Heroic age.

SV @ Turn 176

Finally managed to wrap this up! It was a really fun game. Managed to be rather aggressive, attacked everyone but Wilhelmina.

As always, thank you for the game!
