Had the day off, so I took the dive....patch be damned.
And, it was a pretty uneventful hundred turns. The land isn't great, had lots of barb issues...took me far too long to even find city states, and they were both religious when I did. Sharing a continent with Gilgamesh (who was conquering Kandy and La Venta by the time I found them), Genghis Kahn, and Herald. Settled the plains hills to the east, then the jade to the east of that. Settled 1w of the horse to the south, and figured I'd try to make a push for a swordsman/battering ram war w/ Gilgamesh. Well, he declared on me first, which didnt seem terrible until a barb army of three archers and 2 warriors showed up out of nowhere (of course) and bogged down my attack. Took La Venta, sued for peace, and am now attempting to build up my cities and settle 3 or 4 more cities.

All in all, not too great. Curious to see what better players do with this start. I can still win I think, but it's going to be a long, drawn-out, click fest.

General plan:
get at least one district running in each city, start building impi corps, wait until I can upgrade swords to musket corps, and go on the warpath. The success of that will make or break this game for me.

- Where did you settle your capital city? Your second city?

I settled in place, the second city east, two tiles east of the iron, followed briefly by another city at the coast west of La Venta.

- What did you research and which policies did you choose and why?

Mining for the two boosts, Sailing to sell of the whales to get an early settler, Bronze for Ikanda and GG pts, then Currency.
For policies I focussed on Political Philosophy, then Mercenaries (will get it ~t103).

- What was your build order?

Scout, Builder, Scout, Settler, Settler purchase, Slinger.

- How long did it take to find your neighbors? Were they hostile or friendly?

I met Genghis really soon, then a Scout from Harold and soon after that Gilgamesh. Mongolia and Norway keep denouncing me, was allied to Sumeria but will attack after upgrading my Chariots to Knights with Professional Army (again ~t103).

- How soon did you build a District? Which ones did you prioritize?

Built an early Ikanda to secure a Classical GG, after that focussed on Campusses to keep science up, followed by Commercial Hubs, on which I was too slow.

- Did you try to build any Wonders?

Nope.

- Did you emphasize expansion? How many cities have you built/captured in the first 100 turns?

Yes, I built 8 cities incl Cap, La Venta, which was taken by Sumeria, will join me in a couple of turns via loyalty. The Great War will start soon.

- How quickly did you get Trade Routes working, who did you trade with?

Internally only.

- How did you play your governance cards, priorities?

Flipped them around really often, used Natural Philosophy about constantly. The +GS pts card was nice to get me Al-Zahrawi, who will soon proof his value.

- Which Governors did you choose and why did you choose them?

Magnus for the chopping (God of Harvest pantheon) with Provision for settlers, Pingala for the Science/Culture bonus with Grants for extra GP pts, Amani for extra envoys at Antioch, will promote her soon for war support.

- Was your first age a Dark Age? Did you take any Dark Age cards?

First was golden, second normal.

- What City-States did you meet and which ones did you cultivate to your side?

La Venta, Kandy and Zanzibar taken out by AI, Mohenjo has 2 (?) envoys in it, souzerained Antioch.

- How were the Barbarians?

Annoying from the south until I settled there, now they´re gone and I feel free to start the war, finally^^

- Any surprises?

Not really a surprise, but the mountains in direction on Mongolia and having only a shared border with Sumeria, my long term but has-been ally seems a little annoying.

All in all, it took me quite a while to get ready to declare war soon. Too long actually, but I am not good at quick domination games anyways.

I hope it's okay to post turn-25 stuff here

Spoiler :

Starting here with a bit risky build order: builder, settler, monument.
Now barbs have ambushed my initial warrior.

I got tired of waiting for the patch and gave this one a try and yikes - I'm doing VERY poorly. I don't know if I can pull this one out. I only have 4 cities at turn 86 and way behind in everything. This is a tough map being wedged in between the Mongols and Sumeria. I spent too much of my money early on delegations and monuments and wasn't able to upgrade to swords for an early attack so I'm trying to make one last ditch effort with Impi. I have thrown all +cash policy cards in and I'm waiting for Mercencenaries. I declared a joint war on Genghis with Sumeria to take some pressure off of me and Genghis is starting to turn the tide. I'm hoping for a possible peace treaty so with him so I can then swoop in on a weakened Sumeria and capture their closest cities. That's probably my only chance. I did secure a GG and am close to finishing tactics so there is some hope.

I think my build order was scout, monument, slinger, builder (purchased), slinger settler, slinger.

Gave up waiting for the patch!

Sumeria turn 106. I have 6 cities (4 settled, 2 captured from Sumeria) and, now having my first Impi corps from city capture, am beginning to make some headway in my quest to conquer the world.

I settled in place, built warrior, settler, warrior, 2 x slinger, ikanda, campus, scout. My initial warrior unearthed some useful goody huts then walked into a barbarian horde approaching my capital. I lost him and had to settle city 2 prematurely (w of capital for 2 unique lux but short of the coastal spot I preferred) to avoid loss of settler and escorting warrior. This is my first Deity R&F attempt and have been surprised at the ferocity of barb attacks in this game. The relatively poor starting terrain surrounded by hills with no nearby CS or AI also contributed to a slow start. After quelling the barb hordes I settled 2 more cities to S and SW of capital and met Sumeria and Mongolia after my scout crossed the great divide. I built up a force of warriors, archers and spearmen and set out to attack Sumeria but the slow terrain and war-carts with hill bonus (?? I guess a NW bonus from somewhere beyond my current horizon) made for tough going until I claimed my first GG and upgraded spears to Impi. I now have roads across the hill barrier to speed up troop movement and a group of war chariots ready for knight upgrades when I have sufficient cash. Money is the limiting factor at present but I have 2 markets with traders helping out now. Unfortunately I could not afford to buy my preferred Colosseum site so have started it in a less than optimum position rather than delay.

This looks like it may become a hard slog and I have limited time in next 2 weeks to complete, but hopefully Shaka will prevail.

Same here. Gave up waiting on the patch once I finished the Dutch game.

Settled in place. Scout, builder, 2x settler, monument bought in capital, trader, slingers/warriors/spears. 2nd city E by the coffee/jade, third South, settled on the horse.

Met La Venta first, then Kandy the three civ neighbourgs. Gilgamesh is my friedn. Genghis conquered Kandy, then Sumeria DoWed him and liberated it. I DoWed Norway and captured a builder with my scout, but was unable to get him back due to new cities settled by Genghis/Sumeria. Lost them both later. Went to war with Genghis when he conquered La Venta, but was unable to get it as it had a horse in it. And the terrain is really bad. I conquered Kandy, but lost it due to loyalty and then liberated it. Made peace with Genghis for lots of money. Classical golden age/mediaval dark age by 1 turn.

Empire building went very well on th other hand. Got 2 campuses, 2 ikandas, a CH with a market. Sold lots to Sumer. Early trade route to La Venta for the road. Science focused on impis then knights. Civis to political philosophy and then mercenaries. Went well. Impis on T91. The are Great. Two destroy a Keshig without much harm. So on the offensive again. Joint war with Sumeria against Genghis. Got 2 cities and a settler. Will finish him soon. Then Norway and Sumeria.

Barbs were really bad and were sending lots of troops from West and South.
