A CivIV Players Guide For Adapting To Colonization

I play Civ IV on Immortal difficulty. The manual for Colonization is not to my liking. So, I'm not really understanding or getting into the game. Please post detailed overviews of the game that make clear what your aiming to be doing at different phases of the game. Also, some basic overviews of the strategies you are going to employ at different phases of the game. All with perspective of a Civ IV player trying to adapt.

Playing Civ4 on a high level, i am sure you are familiar with the concept of strategy articles.
There are some for Colonization in a subforum just a few lines above your post.
There is already one for for all the major mechanics and a guide or two as well.

So no one can, or can't be bothered to, help, eh? Weak!

Very well then, I shall write my own guide for Civ 4 players who haven't got a clue what the hell Colonization is about about. I will document my own effort to understand the game and that will serve as a guide for players in the same boat.

Yes, I've had my first victory.

And I feel that I actually understand the game now.

I will write up a walk-through, to serve as a guide framework for other n00bs, so that you can learn the game mechanics then go on and develop your own strategies. Hopefully it will provide you with a full enjoyable game to play, whilst teaching a basic strategy -- not knowingly using exploits, and ending in a decisive victory.

I will also add all the handy tips I've learnt and describe all the aspects that had me completely confused, as per the thread title.

WTFOMGHolyShit.... there I was feeling at peace with the world just quietly leafing through the pages of Civ know how contained within this fountain of knowledge (otherwise referred to as Civ fanatics) when I apprehend this 'barrage' of discontent! Hopefully we can look forward to the product of your labour and newfound knowledge of the game and I eagerly await further fulfillment of my intellectual aspirations.
