- What is required to enter a new age? I always enter a new age when I've discovered almost all technologies in the previous age, but I'm not exactly sure what triggers it.

- When I research a tech, will the leftover money be used for the next tech? I read somewhere that when you have only 1 turn left you should set research to 10% to get lots of money that turn. Is this right?

You will have to discovered most of the technologies of the current age. Then, I will trigger automaticaly in the new age. Some technologies are optional to trigger: there are in the manual.

I do not known. It will try it. It is easy to check while playing.

Hope this will help you.

In all ages except modern some of the advances show a round circle with a line slanted through it in the upper corner of the advancement box. This means that is an optional advancement. You need to research all NON optional advances to go to the next age.

These guys are also listed in the manual on page... if I remember correctly (I'm out of state for Thanksgiving this weekend) ummm, page 93.

Oops, sorry - forgot the second question.

There is no point in turning down your science production as the science output is not lost. You achieve an advance at the beginning of your turn when the computer is going through city by city determing results. You immediately select a new science to work on before even moving to the next city. So all further research that turn just goes to the next project.

Yes you can move the slider down to get more tax money for a turn or two without extending how many years you'll need to finish, but what you're doing is making it so that you have less of a head start on the next advancement. You're not getting something for nothing - just getting more tax and less science.
