Thats just it though. It's not like Sidar start out being unfeeling, it's just that eternity makes them that way. I'm pretty sure that it's mostly the very base emotions that they give up anyways. Pleasure from food, from sex, etc. If Sandalphon can get high on knowledge, then the cerebral pleasures like reading a good book etc are probably still there. Kael said that shades usually start out as extremely passionate people. You'd have to be, to do immortality the shade way.
Since everything in fantasy is a metaphor of something else, if anything I think the Sidar are kind of FFH's fantasy staple of "Immortality has it's downsides". Sure, Elves live for gadzooks, but they have a culture that integrates that. The shorter more energized lives of regular humans probably doesnt translate well to immortality.
It's not like they're ghosts.
