I have decided to undertake a series of games in alphabetical order playing with each Civ in the game. This even means that I will have to play the English when their turn comes up. I did sort of get the Dutch out of order as I labeled them "Dutch" rather than Netherlands or even Holland on the chart* that I had drawn up of the bunch.

I have done the Americans (Domination) and the Arabs (Cultural) and so now the Aztecs will be next. I will be playing all these games at Warlord because I cannot make the C3C work somehow at Regent. I may be able to work my way back to Regent after all these games but it is not really important. I expect domination to be the most common win condition (((sigh)))

I must say though that having played as much as I did at Regent/vanilla and trying a couple of other levels has really improved my game. I am winning quite handily (so far  ) in this series. I really don't know why the Regent is beyond me but it sure is so far.

* If anyone would like a copy of my simple chart that lists
Civ.. Traits...UU... starting techs and a slot for noting if I have played the Civ...

I would be happy to post it. It might be useful for other newbies who are still getting to know the game.

Back at the ranch...

I just found myself wondering if any one else has tried an alphabetical (or other) series to play all Civs. It should be interesting at the very least.

You could just call them the UK at the start, and the when you're halfway through, start referring to them as the Anglo-Saxons. :mischief:

The Aztecs or nice. You can build a couple of Jaguar Warriors and use them as scouts. That way the Aztecs have 3 traits: Agri, Militaristic and Expansionist.

And yes, I know UK and England is not quite the same thing.

I do like your thinking but integrity requires that I play them in turn.

I will use your idea about scouting with the jags though.

I have played and won as the Aztecs before. they are not my first choice but they are do-able.

Hmm, I prefer to beat on the Aztecs, but I admire your idea, Darski. I am pretty much fixed on the Seafaring civilizations, but have not played them all. I should try the Spanish and Portuguese at least once.

I do have a thought for your problems with winning on Regent. You might try a map with less than the maximum number of civilizations to give you a little bit more time to develop your position.

Darksi, play the english on Archipelego, research writing, then code of laws then philosophy at pretty much 100% science then get republic, then map making, the great lighthouse will put you in a golden age, find civs and tech trade the low level ones, get literature and GL if you dont want to tech trade, with the english the bonus commerce of commercial and seafaring will put you a long way out in front

especially if you are on island on your own, no one can attack you early and make sure no other seafaring nations against you.

WHen you get magnetism build man of wars and use them

Not specifically all the civs, although I am working my way through most of them, but I am working my way through all the seeds, at least to see what the map looks like; if the start is too crappy or boring, I won't continue with it. It's not completely methodical as I periodically switch from my fav, pangaea, to continents or 'pelagos, & of course, to different civs from time to time, but it is an organizing principle.

The current seed is 379: continents, 70%, Netherlands. A long straggly continent that I've absorbed, a slightly smaller octopus one that I've made a decent start on, & a very small one given entirely to the French. Although since they tried a ROP rape at the tail end of one of my wars, I'm going to have to spank Joannie.

Z is for Zulu, but are the Vikings V or S for Scandinavia? D is for Dutch or is it N for the Netherlands? Interesting concept, I'd do it if I had time. I do tend to favor certain tribes, so this would be a way to shake things up, play tribes usually avoided. Good luck.

I am doing something similar so I play all the tribes at least once. I am just working backwards through the list. So I played Incas (Spaceship) and am on Portugal now (just started). Playing on Monarch, largest map, 16 civs, and all the middle choices for landmasses, barbs on one of the middle choices.

It'll take awhile, considering games on the huge maps tend to take me 30+ hours. And I almost always shoot for Spaceship, so I end up getting all the dang research before I am done. And I just got distracted by the Ancient Mediterranean Mod, which is excellent btw. And I'm getting a Wii for my birthday here in a month :D

If the last time you played the Aztecs was Vanilla game, you might be surprised by the changes .
Seriously, you should try them at regent. Their strenght is worth a full level. :)

Darski, you have got me to do some thinking, which is always dangerous. While I do not think that I will play every civilization, I think that I will play all of the Seafaring ones, same map, same opponents, different starting locations. The map will be Swargey's Archipelago, which is a good one, with my usual additions and modifications. Opponents starting position will not be set, but the Seafarers will have preset starting locationsl, all different. Since I presently am playing the Dutch, Byzantines, and Vikings on the map, and have a Carthaginian starting position located, I will need to place the English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Since I have not really played the English in Conquests, or the Spanish or Portuguese at all, and the Carthaginians only once, this should prove to be interesting.

Nice Coincidence, i am playing the Aztecs too nowadays. they are fun to play with

I play against the Aztecs a lot - they're usually one of the several AI civs I choose.

They have the Jag Warrior - and unfortunately (or fortunately) they don't use it to their best abilities.

I never played the Aztecs, but if I had Jag Warriors at my disposal - I'd be sending them across the mountains and jungles or whatever on blitzkreig raids popping workers, pillaging improvements.

The AI version of the Aztecs is more than happy to march them right up to your city, one by one to get popped easily.

When i play Aztecs, i always find they are terrible at driving ships  .

They willingly sink 10-15 curraghs 1 tile away from coastal squares

Yeah - one thing I also noticed (not specific to the Aztecs - but the AI in general), they're lousy financeers.

Can't tell you how many times I'm clicking the turn and the AI goes through it's motions, sends units into my area to attack - and after I go through all the city stuff, I go back to that area to deal with the insurgents - and they're gone.

They disband them because I guess they can't afford them.

This is the one thing that is growing on me with this game - the lousy strategy employed by the AI.

Hmm, what level are you playing at Sweetchuck? I have not noticed that in my games. Against that, since I have modified the game a bit, it may be that the AI can do things that normally would not work in an unmodified game.

Nice idea, Darski! My current attempt to shake up the civ's that I play is to have a rule that I have to use all 8 traits every four games that I play, which is why I just finished my first game as Spain. Never did figure out what to do with the Conquistador, though.

That would involve winning enough battles to get a leader. My rng luck in that game was terrible. I think I lost 4 or 5 archers trying to attack barbarians. I didn't even try for a military victory; just won diplomatically.

Well we are progressing nicely. Just did cultural with The Babs so Theodora is up next and I would like to get to a space shot in this one.

I played a continents map for Babylon - just for a change and I suppose it would be the best bet for the Byzantines as well ... I dunno though. I still like my pangaea. of course the Seafaring makes mapping a much safer event.

In my Babylon game - just played- we did not have any wars until the last 15 turns when Portugal went all suicidal. I saw them coming and signed up MPP's with everyone (small map).

I would rather like to have a reasonably sized island to myself for a space race game.. well we shall see what we see.
