Ok so 1st of all i know this proly aint in the right spot so i would ask an admin to move it to where i should have posted it coz i really couldnt find it.

Now lets get to bussines. I would like to know if its possible to add transport units to the game to transport infantry to make em faster. U know like wagons, trucks, Chinooks/Black Hawks. If it is could some plz make em i would be rly grateful. If my search failed and this alrdy exists plz post a link here. Oh and if u r going to make em make em transport 1-2 units each anything more would be rediculus and as i said before make em only be able to load infantry. Thanks in advance, ur civ fan Shoes.

Maybe this should be in the mod section, but I think it would be great if you could use helicopters to transport one foot soldier unit. Would make paratroopers pretty pointless though and also make the "comando" promotion sorta redundent too.
 
Yeah, u might be right... though as far as i know chopers cant fly accros water and para's can jump over it and for the commando promotion idk if it lets u use railroads if it does then it still has its uses ^^. Anyway i just had this idea a couple of days ago and if some1 is bored im begging him to make a mod like this =P

EDIT: plus i would like it to be like loading ships. it would take a while so u cant just load it and then attack meaning u would only be loading em for longer pushes into enemy territory

EDIT #2: oh and i would make transports like ships if they die all troops inside die and would put em the defense only thing MG's got also i would make em quite weak so that they need something like horseman in the early eras gunship in modern era just to let em live^^
 
It would be interesting to have an aircraft / transport to carry the paratroopers and drop them behind AI boarders....

not exacly what i was thinking of but yeah it kinda should be added to this way it seems para's got jet packs to get em to where they need to go though those aircrafts should have much larger capacities then the transports i was thinking of. I would give em 4 troops per flight or smthing
 
You could do it that only certain units can be transported and that they can only be transported X tiles into enemy territory, kinda like you can transport them the backline of the fight just not the frontline where they would get blown up.Also you could add AA guns to counter (unescourted) transports with X intercept chance, maybe also add it to artilery.
 
good idea havent rly thought of ways to counter it other then running fast units vs em, though i dont like the range limit since then it would make em the same as para's. I thought of em as actual units like (if u played Civ Colonization) wagons
 
Well the range limit is mostly for the air units, so that way the commando promotion still is useful althought a little bit less.Could instead do it that the closer the transport the more chance of getting shot, or maybe even better, make it like spies, that the longer the unit is in eney territory the more chance of getting caught.
 
If you are seeking realism, you would have to make it a modern era transport unit. Prior to motorized vehicles, the only infantry that got transported, other than by sea, were the severely wounded. Older transports were only used for baggage and by mounted units of one sort or another.
 
I don't think you need any major modifications to the base game to get what you want; wagons, trucks and trains are already represented by road and railroad improvements that reduce movement costs for land units to one-half and one-tenths of the original movement cost respectively(that is, land units with 1:move: which normally move one tile per turn on unroaded terrain can move 2 tiles per turn on roaded terrain(3 after engineering), and 10 tiles per turn over railroaded terrain), and you can airlift one land unit at a time from one city to another with airports in them. Not sure about infantry on choppers over enemy territory though, maybe you want a Chinook/Blackhawk-type unit similar to the in-game gunship but with the added ability to transport units?

If you want something a little different you can always delve into the code and replace some values there, like increase the movement bonus over railroad, increase capacity & movement points of transports, etc. (I forgot the specific files to edit and the precise steps to follow to go about this :( ) Introducing brand new units would take a lot more work in comparison.

Lastly, welcome to CFC :D; sorry I'm not of much help. And don't worry too much about the flaming - we care for our brothers and sisters of the civfanatic faith and have all seeing and all powerful but infinitely wise and considerate guardian angels (mods) watching over us, and besides, anyone playing civ is intelligent enough to be allowed to post here anyway so we're all cool here. :mischief:

Well all that u have stated is true but i was thinking of the trucks/wagons more of a enemy territory movement increasing unit for when u like wanna charge to their capital or u rly want some wonder in their background. And yeah i was thinking of the Chinook as a gunship with a lil less str but transport capacity also i noticed that i rly should give chinooks a range but i wouldnt set a range for trucks/wagons

You can make land transports. It's even quite easy, just a few things in XML files.

The problem is that the AI will simply never use them to carry anything even if it builds them. It has no clue about transporting units across terrain that the units can already move over. This means that adding such a thing gives the human player a significant advantage. This can only be overcome by adding a customized unit AI type to the DLL - and it gets pretty tricky. It has been attempted a time or two, but with no useful end result. Except...

There is one exception to this that I know of. The Dune Wars mod has some custom AI code that gets the AI to use the "all terrain" transports in the mod in a fairly reasonable way (scout ornithopters, suspensor transports, and the various carryalls - they are all units that hover or fly one way or another and can both move over any terrain, except peaks, and carry troops, much like a transport helicopter would). It is not exactly smart about it, but it does use them to fairly good effect in spite of a variety of issues. So far, as far as I know, nobody has ported that custom AI code to any other mod.

Research the Robotics tech, and then you can upgrade your Infantry to have 2 MPs and integral transport. The Laser does the same thing for your Artillery and SAMs.
 
lulz im not a noob xDDDD I know about that but i was thinking of adding new units like Wagons for Early eras and Çhinooks for modern era would also add up the trucks but i didnt know that AI wouldnt use em so i kinda dont feel like it coz as God-Emperor said human players would be OP maybe me and a friend of my will both mod our files and play a Duel multiplayer over the IP connection option but for single player the idea is hardly possible if even that so plz dont bump this no more
