A newb question

Just a quick question. how do i use the alter of demons to sac units i've tried just about everything i can think of and im starting to loose my mind .

Demons Altars only let you sacrifice units that have gained levels. You have to get xp and purchase promotions before you can kill them. The amount of research you get is also based on the level of the units you sacrifice.

Of course, this also only works with living units.
