I noticed in my recent attacks on a continent with 96 ICBMs that it only takes 2 ICBMs in a single turn to eradicate all and every unit currently inside a city...

no matter the size of the stack inside a city, simply launch two ICBMs at the target and watch the stack be destroyed 100% every time.

It does not happen if they have built bomb shelters that gives them like -75% protection. I had lauched 2 nukes in same city in same turn... none of units died. They just had damage similar to stealth bomber and healed in 2 turns. Nukes are so under-powerd in this game

Nukes seem viable only if you can use them before your opponent can defend against them. Fallout Shelters + SDI make nukes a very costly and inefficient way to destroy armies.

However, you can still use them against the countryside which can have two effects: a)Lure enemy stacks from their cities to destroy them and b) to destroy enemy land and infrastructure.

Obliterating and irradiating their lands can effectively destroy their civilization without having to face them in direct combat. Just watch their cities starve, production grind to a crawl and money careen into the negative. Now see how long they can keep paying for those huge stacks in their cities...

Then sit back and watch global warming destroy your beloved country side, slowly starving your population out

Well, at that point, the game's just about over, so it doesn't really matter WHO dies, so long as your enemies die first.

lol, quote of the day:goodjob:

If he's using Nukes anyway I don't think he's going to care about global warming. Might as well let them do some real damage instead of bouncing off the bunkers. For me, if I'm losing, I'm all about MAD.

Ivan, you need to join the Marines. You already have the mindset. Now you just need the uniform.

That's because ICBMs are strategic weapons, not tactical ones. Just like real life, they're not designed to reduce the enemy's military capacity, they're designed to reduce infrastructure/population.

It would be interesting, though, to have the game include a tac-nuke unit that engaged in normal combat with other military units.

Fallout shelters and SDI can be overcome ...

I'm just not sure about the inneffectiveness of the nuke in Civ IV. Sure it's pretty and it makes you feel all warm and tingly when you watch one detonate in a hated enemy's area, but it's really lame damage makes me angry. All that production time and money for that? Weak! I want "The Day After" type effect! I need "Damnation Alley" aftermath. I would like to see my foes cities crippled to "Beyond Thunderdome" levels.

If only there was a chemical/biological attack option...

/em starts kicking!

I don't get the fascination with nukes - but whatever brings you fun in the game. They seem like a low strategy way to fight and AIs really don't have emotions so they don't care if you nuke them. If you really hate them then TAKE their cities and/or remove them from the game entirely instead of making a few cities glow for a few turns!

The only adjustment I think should be made for nukes is that every time you fire one off you get a huge diplo penalty with all other civs - because even stupid AIs should have enough self preservation to eventually go to war to prevent some psycho from melting the planet!

I've played well over 20 games to completion now and often run the tech tree to completion but I've still yet to build or see any AI build the manhattan project or a single nuke. The only time I've messed with them was in the world builder after I'd won a game just to see graphics. So, I'm not even sure how you could possibly build 96 ICBMs without the game already being way over...or I just haven't played that map type yet!

why cry everyone, check the mods section.........AND ENOY THE BRIGHT WHITE GLOW OF A MILLION DAMB SPANISH UNDER ISABLLA BURN FOR CENTURYS OF NHEAD NIPPING!

I have never launched a nuke or had one launched against me ... I don't think in any of the gazillion games I've played that the AI has even BUILT a nuke (Noble level).

Kolyana when you talk about the gazillion games you've played are you including civ3? Cuase I've played plenty of civ3 where the AI had nukes and used them on me. Thankfully I had SDI and only one or two hit me.

No, not C1, C2 or C3 ... just C4 .... every day and night since owning the damned thing! :p

The only time the AI launched a Nuke at me was in Civ I. I was happily building the spaceship and I recall that one of the AI's had built the Manhatten project. I hit the end turn button....only to see a few seconds later a missle marching its way across my screen to one of MY cities . Berlin evaporated to half its population and all the units dead or damaged.

I think i shut the power off and went to bed right after that.

ah those were the days..........

Zhahz, how dare you attack the spirit of vengence in this game. You just told us theres no Santa Cluase.:nono:
