A Noble Walkthrough

The war goes on (and on)....

660ad. The Waters of Life are discovered in an oasis north of Utrecht (+1c).
Complete farm in Rotterdam which grows next turn.
Move units, bombard Karakoram.

680ad. Bod makes a proposition. William accepts:
nw5h0000.jpg

Sell polytheism to Ragnar for 80g to cover our losses.
Rotterdam grows, works farm, allocates scientist to augment Glib in GS production.
Workers start improving calendar resources.
Move units, bombard Karakorum.

700. Discover MC (metal-casting). Start machinery (5turns).
The Hague cat>forge.
Maastricht cat>forge.
Amsterdam conmon>conmiss.
Move units, bombard Karakorum

720. Move units, bombard Karakorum.

740. Dye plantation completed. Spice plantation completed. Utrecht is built on incense. Happiness abounds.
Shaka's annoyed. How do you think I feel?
nw5j0000.jpg

No, no and thrice no. Go away!
Move units, bombard Karakorum.

760. Lots of stuff happening this turn.
Mo Tzu (Great Prophet) born in Amsterdam. heads towards Utrecht. Priest retires to look after a cottage.
Amsterdam conmiss>conmiss. Conmiss heads to Maastricht.
Moving and bombarding is over. Time to attack:
nw5k0000.jpg

GK has been using the time to fill Karakorum with defenders.
Cats first: CR1 cat (25%) dies, CR1cat (50%) dies, CR2 cat(90%) survives, CR2 cat (97%) survives, CR2 cat (82% across river) survives.
Defenders nicely softened up.
CR2 axe (97%) dies! CR2 axe (97%) wins, axe (98%) wins, ele (97%) wins, HA (99%) wins, char (99%) wins, axe (99.9%) wins. Capture Karakorum:
nw5l0000.jpg

Chariot's now got 10xp but won't become lvl4 until its promoted next turn. Until its promoted I can't build HeroicEpic, I hope it survives.
GK converts to Hinduism! He's got a sword and an axe just outside Karakorum but I moved 3 units inside so it won't fall next turn.

780. Utrecht grows to pop 8, completes a granary and starts a market. Mo Tzu arrives and in a frenzy of divine madness constructs the Kong Miao overnight:
nw5m0000.jpg

Pilgrims flock from a dozen cities and gladly give alms!
Amsterdam conmiss>conmiss. Conmiss heads to the Hague. Adjust tiles to accelerate growth (works grass river cottages instead of hill mines).
Maastricht converts to confucianism.
GK doesn't attack. Axe kills GK sword. Units heal up and get promoted including lvl4 medic 2 chariot. GK still has 2 cities left, don't know where one of them is, time to explore that tundra. Turfan's next anyway.
Monte's now built the Pyramids in Tenochtitlan! He'll probably switch to Police State next turn (his favourite civic iirc) and start building some units.

Pause for reflection.Few things to think about.

First thing is that I've got relations with Ragnar up to +11 and he's still only pleased. Must be these hidden modifiers (-4 'we hate you coz you're a namby-pamby trendy liberal peacenik' or something like that). Shared religion and civics are both +4 and not much room for improvement. A shared war against Shaka might do the trick (though there's always the chance I declare on Shaka, Ragnar makes peace and I'm stuck with a war I don't really need). Maybe trading some resources once I've got some more plantations. Maybe I can gift him a couple of (non-monopoly) techs like monotheism and compass.

Monte is being very un-Monte. Not only is he grabbing lots of wonders but he's actually set up for a trade-route economy:
nw5n0000.jpg

He's not only got Great Lighthouse and Temple of Artemis he's also researched compass for harbours. Unfortunately for him Trade Route Economy isn't very strong on a Pangea map because apart from a couple of small island cities there won't be many intercontinental/ overseas trade routes which is where the big money lies. He's also got machinery so he can defend Tenochtitlan with crossbows which ain't good news for a pre-gunpowder army (though elephants would help). Looking at the tech screen he can research astronomy which suggests he's already got optics.

The good news is that I've got a respectable tech-lead, no-one's got to aesthetics or CoL so I reckon that wonders and liberalism are pretty safe at the moment.

The other good news is that I'm keeping up in power and the economy is beginning to take off:
nw5p0000.jpg

Amsterdam is beginning to fulfil its potential:
nw5s0000.jpg

Have to build an aqueduct soon because its still fairly limited by health.

Rotterdam grew last turn to pop 9, its now running 2 scientists giving 14 gppt (great people points per turn) and will pop a GS in 15 turns.

Got a couple of new cities as well:
nw5q0000.jpg

Beshbalik is going to be another minor commerce city. Doesn't have any spare food so that's a problem.

nw5r0000.jpg

Karakorum is looking like another military pump, particularly as GK generously donated a military instructor. Its going to take several turns to fulfil its potential however.

Going to have to think about research. Could head towards chemistry and steel, maybe look for a flash liberalism slingshot but there's a long way to go on that. Could divert to music (4 turns) and pickup a free Great Artist for a Golden Age (aka going GAGA).

Still have to remember not to neglect military coz the surrounding AIs ain't turned into nice people and its not likely that they ever will.

Hi Pigswill!

I am too surprised by the behavior of Monty... I had a game where he wonderspammed in its cap too, this is really strange because I think that he never (according XML) build wonders
Small tip: you could add cottages to Amsterdam (they are 2 forested riverside grassland tiles...) and grow that city asap! If you do that, you will have to put a farm west of the corn though so he can be irrigated (I don't know if that's possible from screeny).

Cheers,
Raskolnikov

Played..one..more...turn....

The war goes on...

nw5w0000.jpg

Irrrigating corn gives +1food, farm gives another +1 food and loses a cottage site. However only need +1food to compensate for -1health from chopping the remaining forests which can be turned into cottages so its an overall profit. After biology each farm get another +1food as well.

800ad. Machinery is in, now I can build maces and crosbows. Select engineering (5 turns) for pikes and trebs for a thoroughly medieval army.
Upgrade a shock axe to mace in Rotterdam and shock axe to mace in Karakorum, costs 125g a time so my treasury is depleted. GK has two axes near Karakorum, chariot kills one (95%), shock mace will kill the other next turn.
Bombard Turfan a bit (got ele and 2 cats nearby), start heading ele/axe in that direction (can attack in two turns). Bod has a gallic warrior/HAcombo 2 tiles away as well.
Sitch to OR now Confu has spread a bit more (I'm really a builder at heart :p) Anarchy breaks out (again).
Ragnar makes an offer:
nw5t0000.jpg

Mutual military +1 diplo if I accept; 'refused to help us in wartime' -1 diplo if I refuse. I accept.

nw5u0000.jpg

The downside is that I'm now at war with Shaka with most of my army in the wrong place (that's why I upgraded the axe in Rotterdam). Bod and Nap and Monte and Alex all get-1 diplo with me because of 'declaring war on my friend' but no-one's joined in straight away (Shaka don't have much to bribe them with) and no-one's gone into 'wheoorn' so its ok for the moment.

I make another deal with Ragnar to cement the friendship (eventually I should get a diplo bonus for 'supplied us with resources for many years'):
nw5v0000.jpg

And the war goes on. Two wars now.

820. Mace kills axe outside Karakorum.
Turfan's defences reduced to 0. Bod's troops haven't moved.
Horse archer locates Ning Hsai a few tiles south east of Turfan.
A Confucian missionary converts The Hague.
Utrecht whips market (4 pop). Good for the shrine but maybe should have waited a bit longer.

840. HA killed by Mongol spear from Ning Hsai! Axe kills the spear.
The Assault on Turfan:
nw5x0000.jpg

Got ele and 2 cats to the north, ele and axe to the west, Turfan's defended by a sword and an archer. CR1cat attacks (27%) and dies. Ele attacks (93%) and wins. Axe attacks (97%) and wins. Capture Turfan for 108g!
Apart from the iron it doesn't have much going for it. Razed. Burn baby burn etc.
All quiet on the western front (so far).
Nijmegen CH>market.
Utrecht market>lib.
Beshbalik lib>CH.
Amsterdam hits pop12.

860. Impi sneaks out from Bulaweyo.
Upgrade Maastricht's archer to xbow (125g!). Got a shock mace in the areas as well.
Pillage iron mine near the ruins of Turfan.
A stack heading slowly towards Ning Hsai from Karakorum finally arrives. River in the way, better cross it (coz 25% defence bonus is like giving every defender a free CG promotion).
Maastricht forge>Parthenon (8t). Rotterdam had been building parthenon (very slowly) as a queue filler while awaiting something useful to build, swop it to crossbow.
Sell monotheism to Ragnar for 90g.
Monte and Napoleon have discovered Feudalism!

880. Units cross river at Ning-Hsai.
Greece and France celebrate a happy wedding.
Ragnar swops to OR.
Amsterdam conmiss>aqueduct. Conmiss heads to Middelberg.
Middelberg mace>lighthouse. Mace kills Mongol spear (been there for ages blocking a mine).
A Great General (Geronimo!!) is born in Rotterdam and heads towards the action.
The Hague forge>Heroic Epic (HE) (5turns to build).
Impi gets near to Maastricht. Mess up and leave a worker unprotected.

900. Impi kills worker. Mace kills impi (but I don't get the worker back).
Bod adopts vassalage; I guess she's also learned feudalism.
Start assault on Ning-Hsai:
nw5y0000.jpg

920. Engineering>music (3 turns). Now I can build pikes and trebs, more importantly units move faster on roads.
The Battle of Ning-Hsai (defended by axe and 2 archers). Cat bombards defences to 4%. CR cat attacks (73%) and lives, CR2 cat attacks (88%) and lives. Chariot kills axe (96%), CR2 axe kills archer (99%), CR2 axe kills archer (99%). Capture Ning-Hsai for 49g. I also capture 3 workers. Ning-Hsai is even crappier than Turfan and gets razed to the ground. Coincidentally the Mongol Civilisation is dust and ashes on the wind.
The Western Front is no longer quiet:
Shaka vassalises to Monte.
Monte declares war on Ragnar.
Monte declares war on us!!

@Pigswill: how do you set no pop ups like in your first screenshot (of the last post)? I can't find the right way :hammer2:...

Tx :)

@RRR. Not sure what you mean by 'no pop ups' but then I'm :old: and easily . Not the ideal person to post a walkthrough at all .

Yes, the war(s) go on...

940. Middelberg is Confucian. Rotterdam upgrades spear to pike (95g).
Sell calendar to Rags for 80g.
Shaka's got feudalism from somewhere judging by the longbow (LB) in Bulaweyo. Think about trading for feudalism myself but checking out the tech trades table its the only tech on offer and a basic principle of tech-trading is to get at least two techs (one each from different AIs) for one tech. As well as that I don't need serfdom and I can't run vassalage and bureaucracy at the same time.
Bodicea makes an (indecent) proposal!
nw5z0000.jpg

If that's how you feel lets have an unpleasant religious war! (bluff). She's annoyed but doesn't (yet) have enough on her hands.

Geronimo gives up his leadership of the Apache Rebellion and becomes a Flying Doctor:
nw6a0000.jpg

Proof that I am a nice builder not a nasty war-monger:
nw6b0000.jpg

960. Utrecht library>barax
Middelberg lighthouse>cat
ok maybe a bit of a nasty war-monger.

980. Music>Theology.
Time to go GAGA (great artist = golden age).
Upgrade 2 axes to maces.
The Hague: Heroic Epic (HE) >ele.
Karakorum whips granary (2 pop). Not sure of the hammer economics of this during a golden age.
Research 60%: 261bpt, 46gpt.
We're only second in power. Bod has 323k soldiers, William a mere 299k. And she's annoyed...

1000. Monte has discovered philosophy and founded Taoism! How weird is that?
Amsterdam aqueduct>treb.
Maastricht parthenon>treb:
nw6c0000.jpg

Karakorum granary>barax.

Make a deal with Bod:
nw6d0000.jpg

And just like that we're up to 1000ad.

Pause for reflection.

Some good news is that Monte's declaration has nerfed his economy:
nw6e0000.jpg

A problem with a trade route economy is that it relies on trade-routes. Because Monte's at war with Rags and William (me) not only has he lost these trade routes but he's also lost all coastal trade to the eastern kingdoms (Nap, Alex and Bod) until such time as borders are re-opened or he discovers astronomy for oceanic trade routes.

Tech wise its kind of interesting:
nw6f0000.jpg

Alex has obviously discovered machinery (because he can now research engineering) but he doesn't have any metals. On the other hand he's got ivory for an elepult (elephants and catapults) army which is not fun, he might be able to trade for metals or he could pop metal from a mine (the odds are low but given enough turns this will probably happen). He could also trade machinery to bod for feudalism, again not good.
Monte's tech lead means he may be able to bribe the eastern kingdoms to declare on me which wouldn'tbe very nice either.
So I'm a very long way from being safe let alone winning.
Bod is the current danger: she's got eight cities and a decent size army; even though a chunk of her army could be upgraded LBs she might still feel strong enough to declare in the near future.

What this means (alas) is that I'm going to have to delay my plans for peaceful wonder-spam and build a decent army.

@Pigswill: I meant how do you get the little icons on the right of the first screenshot on your post 65 (icon of lib, marchet, and court)? :)

@RRR. I have no idea how they appear, they turn up at the start of a turn and vanish after the movement phase.

Been thinking about victory conditions:
Religious is possible, I've nearly got theology for Apostolic Palace but there seem to be a bunch of clever (but slightly cheap) stratagems for getting a state religion city in every civ and that doesn't really appeal.
Diplomatic is an option. Need to research to Mass Media and build UN. As it stands Bod would be my opponent. I'd need one AI to vote for me, possibly Ragnar but if he stays pleased with Bod he'd abstain. Another option is to get some vassals who are obliged to vote for you but that's a back door domination type of victory.
I've left it a bit late for cultural but there's no serious competition. It would take time to acheive and I'd be fending off numerous attacks which might get a bit tedious.
Space is another possibility. I'd need to expand a bit and obviously there would be a lot of research involved, once again I'd be fending off numerous attacks though with increasingly powerful units.
Time would be really tedious.
Conquest is an option though I'd have to conquer/vassalise everyone including my current friend Ragnar. Would probably be faster than the more peaceful victories.
Domination is possibly my favoured option. Don't need to backstab Ragnar (no in-game reason not to do so, it just seems 'not the done thing'). But I'm currently on 25% land and need 62%+ (population is rarely a problem once you've got the land).

Whatever I go for I'm going to need a powerful army. Every turn that passes the AIs will be accumulating troops and there will come a point when they reach 'critical mass' and invade regardless. (There's some kind of technical explanation involving unit cost as a % of GNP which I don't really understand).

@Pigswill: definately domination ... those warmongers need a good beating :)

Still pondering: probably will go for domination but regardless of victory condition (vc) I reckon the next objective is to get a decent (i.e. gunpowder) army together.

Three options are cuirassiers, rifles or cannon (grenadiers are only 1 tech from cannon).
Cuirassiers have the advantage of mobility.
Rifles have the highest base strength.
Cannon cause collateral damage and tear down defences much faster than trebs.

Whichever option I need gunpowder. Two potential routes:
i) Feudalism>guilds>gunpowder
ii) paper>education>gunpowder.

Cuirassiers also need miltrad which requires philosophy and nationalism
Cannon also require chemistry>steel. Grenadiers then require milsci after chemistry.

Rifles also require printing press>rep parts(needs banking)>rifling.

But it gets more complicated if I add in liberalism (which gives a free tech of course). Liberalism requires philosophy and education. If I consider lightbulbs it gets more complicated still. I also get a GS in 3 turns and the next GS after another 18 turns.

Cuirassiers: option1: philosophy>nationalism (build Taj Mahal)>(trade feudalism)>guilds (build knights ready for upgrading)>gunpowder>military tradition. Use GS for academy. Misses out on liberalism but might still have a chance of getting it later.

Cuirassiers: option2: philosophy>nationalism(build Taj Mahal)>paper>(partbulb)education>gunpowder>liberalism(free military tradition).

Rifles: (feudalism)>guilds>gunpowder(prebuild muskets ready for upgrading)>banking>printing-press>rep parts>rifling. Use GS for academy. Because of banking I have to research guilds so philosophy>education>liberalism isn't as directly useful. One option is to get rifling then research liberalism, take nationalism as free tech and start drafting.

Cannon: paper>philo>(part bulb)education>gunpowder>chemistry>liberalism(steel). Misses out on nationalism for Taj Mahal.

My usual practice is to go for steel and slowly ground through with cannon.

Cuirassiers could also be a decent alternative and would give more versatlity in defence, they'd ignore walls and castles but still have to overcome cultural defences unless I start to invest heavily in espionage and incite some city revolts with spies.

I'm not keen on rifles partly because I'm not that keen on drafting and there's more techs to work through to get them.

As you may have noticed it gets a bit confusing  .

Hi Pigswill!

a bit confusing but it's nice that you show all the choices one can have at this stage of the game...
I would go for Cuirassiers option 1 as I like groceries (perhaps even include banking as banks are awesome in terms of (commerce modifier/hammer) ratio), and cuirarsiers are so effective it's not funny (for the AI )...
Then make a try at your cannon path (aided by liberalism)... perhaps lock liberalism at one turn first then research chemistry. I think you have the time do both (cuirassiers 1 and cannon) :)

Good luck anyways :)
Cheers,
Raskolnikov

RRRaskolnikov is a much better player than I am which probably explains his cavalier approach while I tend to have much more of a seige mentality.
I've got a GS coming up soon: if I'm going for a military victory then I won't be needing the long term research benefits of an academy so I'll be looking to use it for a lightbulb, probably education.

1010. Theology>paper (2 turns). Christianity in Utrecht (double holy city!):
nw6g0000.jpg

Time for an anarchy free civics change:
nw6h0000.jpg

I'll be looking to build up my army during the golden age because I really want to keep up in power, it'll either deter attacks or failing that make them easier to fend off, getting 5xp from barracks and theocracy is a major advantage while spamming units.

Other stuff happens: Ragnar gets a Great General so he's obviously been doing some fighting.
Missionary spreads Christianity to Amsterdam (could build another monastery for10% beaker boost).
Upgrade CR2axe to mace.
Middelberg cat>pike.
The Hague ele>pike.

1020.
Anghor Wat built in (you guessed it) Tenochtitlan.
Napoleon adopts vassalage.
The Hague pike>mace.
Maastricht ele>pike.
Amsterdam ele>christian monastery.
Great Scientist born in Rotterdam, heads to Amsterdam because you get more beakers from a bulb in a large city. Can't remember the formula for a GS its something like 1000+50*pop so in a pop2 city you get 1100 beakers, in a pop 12 city you get 1600 beakers.[Edit; as RRRaskolnikov pointed out later and I subsequently discovered for myself bulbing chemistry this is not true. GS bulbs are not dependent on city pop! ] At the moment the GS would lightbulb philosophy.

1030. Some nasty swine has poisoned the water in Nijmegen (-4 health, -1 food) but shouldn't lose any pop just slow down growth.
Rotterdam crossbow>market.
Upgrade CR2axe to mace. Disband warrior coz unit maintenance is building up and a warrior doesn't add (or subtract) much to the balance of power though costs the same in maintenance.
Amsterdam christian monastery>treb.
Utrecht barax>CH.
Discover paper. Can now trade maps. Approach Ragnar for his map. "Can you spare this for a good friend?". He does!
At last I get to see the Aztec Empire (screenshot taken a bit later):
nw6t0000.jpg

Tenochtitlan is looking more and more tempting...

And the Greek Seahorse Empire:
nw6s0000.jpg

to be continued...

.....in this post.

Still at 1030ad. Still at war with Shaka and Monte though its been fairly quiet recently....

Last round the GS would bulb philosophy. Having discovered paper the GS can now bulb towards education. If you're not familiar with Dave McW's Great Person Tech Preferences in the strategy forum (the only strategy article I regularly use) here's a list of the early GS preferences:

Mathematics
Scientific Method
Physics
Education
Printing Press
Fiber Optics
Computers
Laser (BTS)
The Wheel
Alphabet (BTS)
Philosophy
Chemistry
Fission
Fusion
Optics
Paper
Astronomy

Basically a GS will bulb techs in this order as long as you have the pre-requesite techs and are able to research it. Last round I didn't know paper but already knew maths, alphabet and wheel so philosophy was the first tech I could bulb.
The GS bulb in Amsterdam generated 1690 beakers towards education, reducing research time from 7 turns to 2 turns. Philosophy is a much cheaper tech and if I'd bulbed it instead of waiting for education I would have 'lost' several hundred beakers. [Edit: the reason that beakers are lost is that unlike conventional research the beakers from a lightbulb don't overflow into the next tech so a GS would lightbulb the wheel with no overflow in the same way it would lightbulb philosophy without overflow.]
Looking at the table the next tech that can be bulbed is going to be printing press (coz I've already researched its pre-reqs of machinery and paper). But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself.

Enough of the scholarly interludes and back to the game:

1040. Make a deal with Alex:
nw6j0001.jpg

Still having problems with health, particularly in Amsterdam.

Napoleon makes a demand:
nw6k0000.jpg

Forget it, Little Corporal (what are you going to do, kill me?).

Monte builds the Mausoleum of Mausallos in (you've guessed it) Tenochtitlan .
The Hague: mace>xbow.
Maastricht: pike>treb.
Middelberg: pike>cat.

1050.
Education>philosophy (increase research to 80%, lose 7gpt, philosophy in 2 turns).
Amsterdam: queue University in front of treb.
The Hague xbow>buddhist monastery (more culture).

1060. Ragnar captures Um.. city from Shaka.
Maastricht: treb>treb.
Middelberg cat>CH.

1070. Golden Age ends. Research 70% 288bpt +5gpt.
The Hague: budmon>treb.
Karakorum: barax>CH.
Philosophy>gunpowder (4 turns).
Make some deals: (forgot to take screenshots)
Col+Theo to Nap for Feudalism, 130g
CoL+Mono to Alex for Compass, 35g
CoL to Rags for map, 90g.

Been building up the army. Now got army of 399k troops, Bod is nearest with 353k troops. Army is currently split into three stacks:
nw6p0000.jpg

Mainly city raiders with shock mace and ele for protection.

nw6q0000.jpg

Western defence stack.

nw6r0000.jpg

Eastern defence stack.

My eastern neighbours don't like me very much but no-one has enough on theirhands at the moment. Monte's been wonder-spamming instead of fighting a war. Shaka's actually lost 2 cities to Ragnar, Bulaweyo is looking precarious which would only leave him with Ulundi. Poor Shaka  .

Haven't mentioned worker actions. Several of them have been busy improving tiles around Karakorum, couple have been farming and cottaging inAmsterdam, others have been building some farms to boost city growth.

@Pigswill: I thought beakers provided by a GS depends on total civ pop, not city pop (unlike a GE for example)... but I could be wrong here.
Looking at the screenies, I think you could use some more workers (death to forested grasslands!)... Good luck for the next round :)

Cheers

Going for steel via liberalism I reckon: gunpowder>chemistry>liberalism (steel) is the direct route.

1080. Rags declares peace with Monte and Shaka. I don't (not that Monte is willing to talk anyway). Battle of Bulaweyo commences. Defended by LB and axe. CR2Treb v LB (82%), survives. CR2 mace v axe (95%) wins, CR2 mace v LB (99.9%) wins. Capture Bulaweyo and 2 workers, plunder 66g:
nw6u0000.jpg

Pretty naff because of overlap. razed.
Poor Shaka. Lonely in Ulundi .
Research philosophy>gunpowder (5turns).
The Hague: treb>pike.
Upgrade 2 archers to xbows (costs 190g).

1090. Cities are growing.
Beshbalik: whip CH(2pop).
Maastricht: treb>LH.

1100. Beshbalik CH>harbour.
Bod has enough on her hands! Who is her target? She hates me more than anyone else, on the other hand I'm relatively powerful and aggressive AIs can pick on anyone they're not friendly with ('pleased' cuts no ice with these psychos). Guess I'll find out.

1110. The Hague: pike>treb.

1120. Make a deal with Ragnar (more for diplo than financial gain):
nw6w0000.jpg

Gunpowder is in. Notice that next GS is due in 5 turns, he/she will bulb chemistry after printing press (PP). Research printing press (5 turns) which should coinicde with GS and PP is a nice boost for a cottage economy (+1c on villages and towns iirc).

Haven't gone through my cities recently so here's an update:

Amsterdam
nw6x0000.jpg

Improving nicely. Health is still an issue but running short of resources. A grocer would probably help but I'd have to research guilds first, so that'll probably wait until steel. Always handy to have happiness and money so it'll build a market next and then knock out some trebs.

Utrecht:
nw6y0000.jpg

Got some workers building a spice plantation. I'll leave the forests for a minor production boost. Cottage the plains tile, maybe build a lighthouse. Making some money from the shrine so another city that will need a grocer.

The Hague
nw6z0000.jpg

Heroic Epic and MI makes it a straightforward unit pump. Need to grow it a bit more so it can support more mines and its got a couple of hill tiles that still need mining. Even a desert hill is a useful addition when boosted by Heroic Epic. Its getting cultural pressure from TLC (The Little Corporal aka Napoleon) which is why it built a monastery, might need a (cheap) library, a theatre would be better but that involves a detour to drama.

Rotterdam
nw7a0000.jpg

Not a GPFarm but a small GS Farm, I built Parthenon elsewhere (Maastricht) to prevent gp 'pollution'. I have an irrational belief that if I have a 5% chance of a Great Artist I'm guaranteed a Great Artist. Eventually (after Scientific Method) the Great Library will obselete and it will become a straightforward cottage commerce city.

Nijmegen
nw7b0000.jpg

Speaking of cottage commerce cities here's one I prepared earlier. Its growing slowly due to lack of food but its doing its bit for the Empire.

to be continued...

I think I can hear those north western "provinces" that Monte and Shaka are housekeeping saying "we yearn to join our motherland" :D

Haven't opened the save yet, been busy on a huge marathon game but i can't wait to see cannons parading through Tenochtitlan :goodjob:
