This is the closest I've seen a civ threaten nuclear war. In Civ2, they outright warned ya w/ "Our words are backed by nuclear weapons." Something or other.

Yeah. We really need more direct ways of dealing with nuclear weapons in diplomacy. Disarm treaties, nuclear threats, etc.

I miss the "Our words are backed with nuclear weapon!" from civ 2. And, if you had nukes and they didn't, they begged you to destroy them, before they destroy us all, or something to that effect. Civ 2 had handled diplomacy better in some aspects, IMHO.

There are some elements I miss, but on average I still lean toward Civ3. Maybe a list of things we want and submit it as official suggestions for for the next rev of Mac PTW or Civ4?

Alpha Centauri (and Alien Crossfire) has an awesome system for diplomacy. It's very flexible and much more realistic than Civ3. I wonder why it wasn't integrated into Civ3. Our loss.

I love the diplomacy in SMAC and AX! That I can ask another civ to call off a war on one of my friends is beautiful!!!

That would be excellent in Civ3 (or 4 . . . hint, hint!).

I'm a bit curious about diplomacy in PTW multiplayer; is it almost or entirely identical to you vs. AI, or is the interface a bit different? Something that I think would be helpful, if it isn't already implemented(never really got to play many mp games with my old Performa 450[yes, i know that that thing was amazingly old]) is have a IM or some kind of communication with another opponent, so deals could be made more clear between players.

Well, it's somthing like single player. You only get to see your stuff, on the right side of the screen. You don't get to select/see what your opponent has. At the bottom, there is a button for "Accept" and stuff like that. Where text from the AI normally pops up, you have a text field in which to type and send messages.

i've never been nuked by another country in any civ game, i usually start global domination when I get nukes, as I am the first to get them (Civ 2 and below) anyone been in an all scale nuke war with multiple countries? I would love reading peeps stories is there a forum for them?

In one of my early games (Chieftain, as Persia) I got involved in a big world war. At that point I was just about finished the game (only a few turns), and so decided to launch nukes. I hadn't built the SDI wonder yet, and got hit four or five times after launching one nuke at each of the other countries' capitals. It really made a mess... ;)

Only on two occassions have I been nuked. The first time was in a game so long ago. China nuked me three times in a row; however, I had the SDI and all three were destroyed enroute. The other time was in an emperor game. I nuked Rome's capital and captured it, to destroy Ceasar's spaceship. Rome nuked my capial the very next turn. Fortunately, I had more. ;)

Nukes in certain cases can be useful, but I still consider them as a last resort, unless its just me and another civ, or I'm the only civ with nukes. I usually just use them for isolating the capital, and weakening big cities that I don't plan on keeping, since the land around them will degenerate.

A question just came into my mind: Let's say someone builds the Manhattan Project, and you build up an nice nuclear arsenal. Then you go to war with the civ that has the Manhattan prj., attack that city, and raze it. Will you and other civs not be allowed to build more nukes, or is that once it has been built, everone can always build them from that point?

IIRC this has been tested and everyone will still be able to build nukes.

I'm playing thru my first game now, and am in industrial times and I own about 3/4ths of the world, due to some quick tech's earlier on :-) eagerly awaiting the launch of hundreds of nukes :-) btw I don't see resources like rubber or plutonium, does that stuff add itself to the map when you need it?

Yup, they appear when you get the appropriate techs. You'll see rubber (IIRC) when you get replaceable parts, oil with combustion, aluminum with rocketry, etc.

ive had a couple instances when i was attacked by nukes from another country, usually militaristic ones. Every time i have been attacked it was only after i had destroyed all but a few of there cities and coming for the rest. in my opinion nukes are good but mass mass amounts of mobile armor is better.
