Hello all, first thank you for a most amazing mod. Second I am from Paris so if I am not understandable in grammar please be certain to say. :)

I love to play the Lanun but am a little confused. In his pedia entry, the description of their hero says he has the ability to take over the ships, to sing and the <<hero ability>> to take control of the waves. I am thinking because it is called hero ability, it is not referring to their world spell non? However I do not see other options with the hero and he gains nothing new when in a boat.

I hope you do pickup I want to say I have the optics and am not talking about the <<raging seas>> spell but another ability that is described in the pedia of this singing hero.

I hope you understand me, if not you are lucky I did not have to say it but only write. :) Anyway I wish you all happy new years and I thank you very much in advance ! merci !

Im not sure what that "exert control of the waves" comment refers to (I updated the strategy text to be less confusing). Guybrush can sing (which has no game effect except its nice to hear him sing pirate songs) and can take over enemy ships. To use that ability just use him to attack an enemy ship, if he defeats the ship he will take control of it.

Thanks you very much for the swift reply Kael, this is the passage we both talk about yes?

Guybrush has the boarding party ability... plus the hero ability allowing his lanun leader to exert control of the waves

What you said is what I did understand but like you I do not know what that passage means to say. I first thought it was the world spell but 1) it says hero ability and 2) I have read no other pedias in which it says the world spell is related to the hero.

It is very puzzling but I am guessing if you do not know what it is referring to then it is safe to assume Guybrush's specials are only boarding and singing, thank you very much. :)

That means that those two colored abilities are a big advantage to the player that owns Guybrush.
And in what situation is he best: When fighting at sea.

Hopefully this post clears more up then it confuses readers.

You should make him able to insult the enemy units to gain a morale advantage...:-)

A comma before "allowing" might help clarify it a bit :) Strictly speaking of course, Guybrush doesn't allow that, he just assists with it :P

Yes, that and the taking control of the ships. The ability to take over enemy ships and the hero promotion together make him a dangerous foe in the water. ("a dangerous foe in the water" was written as "allowing [him to] ... exert control of the waves".)

I think I might try and write a mapscript for FfH that creates interesting maps where Lanun is a viable civ, without making it two different continents, and without making it too much water.

I prefer Pangaea maps with both FfH and Vanilla civs, though the Hemispheres mapscript is pretty fun with vanilla. But I don't see Erebus as a divided continent so I don't like multiple continents when I play FfH.
But Pangaea's create issues too.
- The animals disappear quickly, probably cause I take more civs than map standard, and the AI got immense bonuses versus barbarians on the higher difficulties so they kill them all.
- You meet everyone easily.
- There are almost no water interaction. Ships can be almost skipped entirely and land cities are often preferred to a coastal one cause of the value of the terrain.
etc.

yeah, a kind of "spaghetti mess" fractal pangaea would be cool - lanun could play to their naval strengths but other civs could still get around and have some land to play with, plus there'd be the possibility of chokepoints and other strategically interesting features

Big and small sometimes sets up a pangea with lots of little islands. You could try that.

@ Ksi :
to take control of the waves
is equivalent to "to take control of the seas"

you can translate Guybrush has the boarding party ability... plus the hero ability allowing his lanun leader to exert control of the waves directly by
Guybrush a le pouvoir de capturer des vaisseaux... ainsi que la promotion "hero" ce qui aide le leader lanun à reigner sur les mers

doesn't archipelago with low sea level and long island not creat almost what you want ?
or the "random" map type ?? (can't remember it's name yet)

If I'd play Lanun I wouldn't want a map which is tailor suited just for them, I want a map that is fair for everyone.

Why not medium-small, its quite good for everyone.

I thought archipelago with low sea level made huge island chains that are linked together ??? thus giving power to the sea but not reducing anything anywhere else..

or that other setting... (twisted or somthing like that) with hige level sea : giving 1 continent very convulated with a lot of opportunites for seamen but not needing the sea at all if you don't want it.

but maybe I'm wrong...
