A request for the byzantine empire

@ Panther GR
@ Golem Ryder
@ Tunch Khan

You guys are all right, there's no reason to stress. We all come from different languages and points of view. Hell, the French call Germany by the name the Romans use 2 thousand years ago. And of course neither that, nor the english word are what the Germans call themselves. Even Greece is not Greece if you want to get right down to it.

The Byzantines Empire is just as appropriate as if a thousand years from now the Dutch were the dominant nation and they called the America of history the New Amsterdam Empire. It all depends on your point of view.

@ Panther_GR I usually don't respond to your kind here (not as in Greeks, I meant your kind as in stupid fanatics) but you are making annoying accusations as my "accidental" mistakes or whatsoever and attempting to start a Greco-Turkish flame war.
- My partner is Greek to start with;
- I've been allover Greece numerous times and I love the country and culture;
- I love the fact that we fight over the name in coffeeshops when I order Turkish coffee (otherwise i don't even drink Turkish coffee); they claim it's Greek coffee;
- I love most "Byzantine" art and architecture in the city that I grew up;
- There are many other things i could just list here in order to have you shut up, but you wouldn't probably comprehend it;

My single point was the name of the Hellenized Eastern Roman Empire, which has never been it it's full history called Byzantium. It's called like that today by a vast majority of people but when you make silly assumptions on how "Byzantines" considered themselves this or called themselves that you are making yourself look ridiculous.

Two suggestions: If you really love your history that much, start reading it;
and secondly, stop wasting my time assuming I am this or I am that or contributing imaginary things to myself as if I had said "there has never been a Hellenized Eastern Roman Empire."

There was one and they insisted on their emperor as being the only emperor in the world due to the fact that they are the rightful heirs to the throne of Rome, not recognizing on political level the Holy Roman Empire as the successor to Roman Empire.

Stupid fanatic??? I am sory but my posts don't indicate such thing... Yours on the other hand indicates.

I don't want to discuss it any futrther. I'll keep watching your posts though and I'll reply when you are wrong, or right.

P.S. My sister (Greek living in Thessalonika) is married to a Turkish guy. No problem and no "fanatic" in me...

Getting back on topic: To the guy who is working on the Byzantine (and for the record, they did consider them Roman until the very end; when they finally considerded themselves fully Helenic) Civ, what leaders are you using? Basil II and Heraclius I hope.

Actually I am using Emporer Basil II and General Belisarius. All the info and stuff was provided to me. I actually know nothing about the Byzantine empire. My area of focus is the Asian empires.

A word to everyone who is waiting for this mod, especially Wei-Yan who has been so patient. I am sorry this is taking so long, I am currently in the middle of mid-term exams at university. They are eating up alot of my time so I really haven't had time to work on my major projects. Just a little bit of python and my tutorial. Next week is spring break for me, so there should be a boom in production. :) Thank you all for your patience.

Your whole posts were on the "assumption" of me claiming a Hellenic Eastern Roman Empire never existed, while everyone else other than you understood that I was referring to it's name only. Hence was my initial reasoning on why you weren't as intelligent.

Your sister might be Ok with Turks, but i see you have some resentment yourself as you are pointing out what some Turkish soccer fanatics posted on banner here and there and such "Phantasmagorial Byzantic" dreams of converting St.Sophia to an Orthodox Church; as you claim it has been desecrated by Turks 600 years ago. [Perhaps the United States of America should give all their lands back to the Native Americans?] What happened to the beautiful mosques in Athens? How many of them have survived as mosques? You know the answer (0); while there are hundreds of functional churches from all denominations of Christianity and Jewish Synagogs in Istanbul with the oldest Greek Orthodox churches as well as the seat of the Patriarchate of all Greek Orthodoxs in the World. The only mosque Greeks have attempted to build was a Saudi financed project in order to have the Olympic Games, which is still not finished since the project started in 1979, while Athens is home to 150.000 muslims without a place of worship.

Your posts are just the required materials to start a flame war and nothing more. Why haven't you explained that the Turkish soccer ban was in response to a previous Greek ban which said "Konstantinopolis is Greek"? This is why I called you a fanatic because you turn a blind eye to one side of the story while trying to convince people how mighty your ancestors were.

There is no doubt in the role as a superpower Hellenic Eastern Roman Empire played, just as there's no doubt Ottomans were the superpower which replaced it, but this is all history and after ages of war, now it's time for peace and Turkey and Greece are two neigbors who have to learn to live next to eachother by mutual respect.

Without getting in the middle of your arguement, I do also think we should learn to get along and realize that both Greeks and Turks are trying to respectively acheive such a destiny.

With the person doing the leaders, how about Alexius I? He was a very capable leader (granted, he followed Michael who waltzed into an ambush at Manzikert so the bar was set pretty low) and he also got the Westerners involved with the 1st Crusade. We know a great deal about him since his daughter left behind a history of his reign with The Alexiad.

Civ 3 had Theodora as the only Byzantine leader, though a good arguement could be made for her husband Justinian depending on how capable you think he was.

BTW: If you are looking for a specialist, John of Capadosia (sp?) who was the finance wizard for Justinian might make for a Great Merchant. Just a thought though.

- I love the fact that we fight over the name in coffeeshops when I order Turkish coffee (otherwise i don't even drink Turkish coffee); they claim it's Greek coffee;
The rest of the Balkans knows its really Turkish coffee; or kafe turke. But it's funny, they try to claim the same with Burek, calling it spanakopita :lol:

Anyway, the Byzantine Empire is one of the factions in the mod I'm creating about Eastern European Battles with the Ottoman Turks. Although they will be relatively weak (since during the scope of the mod they were pretty insignificant and close to collapse), I'de still take suggestions on which leaders you would like to see.

Take a look at the thread, and please post your ideas :)
