A RoguelikeOffTopicum - Take I

I rip out the ribcage of one undead and use that to beat the others to death.

Ahoy,

I have a sad news.

I was planning on doing a narrative "tale" in each update in order to not leave plain and briefed texts but it ends up by consuming my time to some extent that would take days to finalize at least one character; I also thought by the following factor: this is a "attempt" and as such, if perchance, become a time consuming game, it will end up in ruin. So from now the updates are "summarized" in a more usual "colloquial" form that requires less time in its creative process. I am sorry.

Anyway, I'll be using extracted parts of the text that I had already previously written.

A SPARK IN THE DARK
Spoiler :
KNydOJu.png
The Sorcerer, Mage, Bard, Rogue, Ranger, Barbarian and Assassin.
They go through the dense pine forest and after a few hours of walking they are faced with a dead forest. Trees without leaves and the ground looks dead are part of the terrifying scenario. Later on they find a group of undead, below a dead pine they saw a dead animal rotting surrounded by them. Five undead feasting with the meat, tearing the flesh with their nails and teeth.

The sickening feast was interrupted by the sound of lightning. Birds flew away as the sound echoed through the forest. The Sorcerer’s curved blade was shining in a bluish color while still showing signs of sparks. One of the undead was violently thrown few meters back with his flesh burned.

The attack was followed by Fluffles, the Ranger’s Companion. The fierce tiger initiated the carnage that would take place in the forest. With amazing speed, the beast jumped on one of the living dead, ripping his head off. Few meters next to it, one of the undeads exploded when the Mage threw a fireball in his direction.

The other two undead turned to run toward the group, in vain. The Rogue and the Assassin already awaited them. Precise blow as the Assassin decapitated one of the undead while the Rogue preferred to use his crossbow to deliver the final blow on the remaining undead.

They continued walking until they found a strange cabin in the woods. Its occupant was an old man who claimed to be a "retired" mage. He shared that cabin with a draconic pet, a dog sized creature but similar to a lizard.

He told the group about a young warlock who lives somewhere in the forest trying to control the undead. "The fool," as the mage said, is trying to raise an army taking advantage of this plague.

Should the group help the mage hunting this warlock or venture forth into the forest?

[Everyone gain +5 EXP; Assassin and Ranger -5 HP resulting from the poisoned blood of the living deads.]

THE KING WITHOUT A CROWN
Spoiler :
HqFsQZn.png
The Vindicator, Duelist and Guardian
The group follows the road and face a traveler and his family in a wagon. After gaining a little confidence the traveler says he is running away from Hollowview while he can. He says that Hollowview when is not being attacked by undead is being ransacked by a gang of thugs who live beyond the mountain. And then he has the brilliant idea of offering the group a mission: eliminate the bandits.

He says that he was a banker of Hollowview and offers 10 gold per head for each and only asks in return an artifact, a golden cross that the bandits robbed. He gladly offers a ride Hollowview.

Should the group eliminate the bandits or move on?

[Everyone gain +1 EXP]

A THOUSAND SOULS TO TORTURE
Spoiler :
TLtuTqQ.png
The Crusader and the Warlock
Both follow the coordinates given by the Cleric and increasingly step into a swamp with no return. They advance easily, killing two undead.

The only way to go is forward.

[+6 EXP to the group; The Crusader lost 2 HP]

Jaynoah sees if the Old man has anything worth trading for. If he does, whether it's knowledge, secrets, or things, she'll trade with her own knowledge and secrets.

I believe we should be careful. Mages have, with all my due respect Zotov, you're a nice person and all, a rather shoody record of telling the complete truth. He could be telling the truth, but only God knows what awaits ahead.

This warlock is a concern. We should at least investigate; warlock or not the undead must have some source.

By the way: do you by any chance have any volume on local histories and on arcane secrets my dear fellow in magecraft? I have been sent on a mission of adventure by my ruler, Grand Prince Illarion of Rodina. It is my interest to learn what I can.

If there is a scourge of a warlock attempting to raise a army of the undead for ill then we should deal with the issue. I know your concern but we must find out if it is the complete truth. Once we have gathered enough information from the woods (such as witness to the warlock) then we can conduct further actions needed.

I'd like to steal some sort of random trinket from the mage. Ideally something easy to grab. Then follow with the rest of the group in whatever the majority decides to do.

What a shame. Doesn't the lord of this lands do anything to stop this disgraceful situation? We'll help thee.

BANDIT HEADS
yaay

Not so fast, I propose two courses of action. We can travel to their camp and study the surroundings or we can prepare an ambush in Hollowview, for the next time they come to the town.

I volunteer to use my skills as an Outdoorsman to find a suitable place for an ambush. My experience should allow me to do it without being noticed.

I make some stakes because why would I not?

Perfect, I'll patrol the forests around the town to see them come and warn you, and I'll prepare some potions to help us in battle.

Sir Odger listen to the group plan of ambush and think that is a sound plan to go along with but doesn't comment on it.

@thomas.berubeg The old man teaches you a light magic which can both be used to attack undeads, blind for a while or to read in the dark.

@SouthernKing he liked and in return taught you a stronger healing spell.

@Ailedhoo he says: a relic of the Tower of a Thousand Floors. “Not even a dragon if near to my cabin could spill fire here." It has an ancient magic, those who get close feel a desire to be peaceful. he says that you can study at night, but cannot take.

@EQandcivfanatic three magical tomes that only God knows how they work.

@Tolni, @Double A and @Calgori you are in different places...

I am also preparing a wiki about the roguelike. I'll be filling of details about the world and in the future, as I have already said, prepare to launch Roguelike Offtopicum - official edition.

"Well, you people stay with this friendly gentlemen. Seems like you can take care of yourselves" Fiait said. "One last thing. Where did the warlock and his army went?"
"North of here, trail's still visible."
"Until later, then."

She went on north, following the trail. The forest, as forests usually tend to do, got denser. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing - dense forests were a Ranger's best friend, and they provide cover that can save your life..or end someone else's.

As she was walking, she thought of home. All that was left of it was this pick. And even it lost all meaning; a tool of peace, now used only as a close-hand weapon, as most people expect a knife or a saber from a Ranger. Nobody ever expects a fine dwarven pick breaking their brains all over the place.

Home. Far in the north, where snow-covered peaks rise like giant columns that make the skies stand still. Deep within them, the dwarven mines know no break... apart from the occasional orc attack, or when the trolls come from the deep tunnels to break carts and rails. And of course, riots. Nobody riots like a dwarf. Whether the foreman did something wrong, the mine conditions are bad, or the ore vein is deplenishing, there is always a reason for a riot. With riots, blood starts flowering the place.

But it wasn't like this. Not always. Stories tell of times before, they say that once upon a time, the dwarfs weren't spending their lives mining in dark mines never seeing the light of the day. No, there were days in the past, when they were simple farmers, ranchers. When the land north was filled with greenery and dwarfs were happy for once.

TBC.

Game Master's announcement: This is not dead. I let the game flow without requesting the orders and by consequence the roguelike received an uninteresting hiatus for the game itself. Seems that I can leave a warning about the orders so consider a soft orders lock until Sunday.

In any case, I'll be preparing the update. Apparently I may have understood the text of you wrongly and, in this case I advance my apologies for my carelessness; or, at least, some of you still did not give me orders after my post. Or perhaps you all sent me orders and I'm imagining all this, I need a good sleep then.
