A (slightly) more dynamic tech tree?

What if, in addition to getting technology from the tech tree, certain great scientists, great engineers etc., let you unlock unique technologies?

So, maybe Archimedes lets you unlock a water screw, which when built in a fresh water city gives +1 housing? Maybe Napoleon lets you unlock Lancers?

You could then trade these technologies and maybe even steal them with spies?

Would that make technology more dynamic / unpredictable, without actually doing violence to the existing tech tree?

Some Great Merchant can unlock special Luxury. I don't know how to feel about this addition honestly xD
