When I finally had the science, I started on my SS right away, built it as quickly as possible, and launched it. THen I went for another growth spurt--which was easy since I already had a large number of cities everywhere by then.
I launched when I thought I could reach pop 320 mil by the SS ETA date, but as to how that would translate into the GOTM score I had no clue. In fact, I still don't. I still just have a vague idea that the GOTM score reflects an early finish as well as the Civ score, and that's about it. I'm not the shapest knife in the math drawer, you could say...
But I know that if I had really kept a eye on pop and bonuses,rather than just playing it by ear, I could have raised my score significantly.
