a true attack-chopper discussion

I'm in the minority here, but I'd almost prefer it if they further abstracted air-power. Civ is a wholly strategic game, and it has great difficulty realistically implementing predominantly tactical assets (close air support) -- especially in light of year long turns (at minimum).

How would you further abstract it? Its pretty abstract now!

Air combat has to become LESS abstract becuase the way it is now, its a silver bullet. You know 90% (I'm using a low figure) of your bombers are going to survive every turn, reguardless of opponent and most are going to do so without a battle wound.

They have to become less abstract because in doing so, they would also become a more balanced system.

Tanks would love such a survival margin.

@Volstag: Not every Civ scenario divides turns into centuries/decades/years. But even if they did, are you telling me that it is correct to think that a mod infantry unit can move only the distance proportional to one tile per year? :)

Scale is not consistent in Civ so we should stop using scale to defend poorly designed game mechanics that has annoyed and frustrated us about C3C. That's what I think anyway.:)

@Volstag: To what purpose do you mean this? Why would you want this? Without adv bombers, there is no air-power in C3C. There is no incentive to build anything but these bombers because none of the other military air units do their job. In C3C games I have played, none of the other three fighting air units ever hit anything. But then, I've only been playing for three months; perhaps if I had the patience to play for a full year, I may see an interception occur.:)

But my rant does not address directly your comment because there isn't any reason why the air-combat system can't be both useful and more "abstracted."

So what I have to say to this is that I would like you to recognize that scale is deliberately inconsistent in Civ. Thus, Civ's scale is a bad reason for wanting to take direct control of air units out of the hands of players; in fact, it is a counter-reason. Also, we might as well have control over this very integral part of the battle since we have control over land, sea, and missile units anyway. But most importantly, I think it would be fun to have direct control over a plane in a Civ game.:)

But I do respect your view and moreover I don't know that you are necessarily in the minority. :goodjob:
