Comrades! the time has come for Russia to take its rightful place at the head of the world!

For too long has Austria sat on our border, forcing us to act like frightened children, allying themselves with rightful Russian territories and demanding right of passage through our lands.

For too long has France colonized the pacific coast while we take unsuccessful covert steps to remove them.

For too long has Russia sat quietly in the corner, smiling away like fools while our neighbours fall to these nations... It is the dawning of a new age, not a French age or an Austrian age

This Comrades, is a Russian age!

OOC:

I've been playing a game as Russia, attempting to catch up to my rapidly expanding neighbours who have not only larger armies but also far better technology.... I decided I should try a short AAR to correct this, if nothing else than to test my first attempt at warfare with a gigantic blob Empire.

Feel free to apply or simply give me pointers, the Government is a Noble Republic so we're not really Tzarist... but it makes for an interesting title :p

In accordance with our large land mass and need to move large amounts of troops quickly all armies are cavalry... Thousands of Cossacks prepared to charge into battle. Infantry and Cannons could likely be created if a general decided to argue in favour of them.

PrinceScamp's Army Group has been set up on the Austrian-Russian Border

England is mostly the Papal States while America is a mix of the USA, Canada and Louisiana... as well as the nations they rebeled away from, England is the giant red blotch in NA as they moved their capital there to escape the pope I presume

South America is a mix of Paraguay, Chile, Peru, Castile and Colombia

and I have no clue how things went so crazy, the furthest west I allowed myself to go was Warsaw so the AI did this to themselves

On the topic of army structure, I can see one flaw in your all cavalry plan. How are you going to quickly defeat Austria if you don't have any infantry to siege and assault their forts?

Update 2: (Thus why its a mini AAR, shorter updates and playing as if its a normal game rather than a normal AAR)

Scamp's Army keeps an eye on the lurking Austrian threat on our border

@Metro; and I have no clue on how I intend to do that , pointing out flaws in my plan makes it stronger so keep it up :)

The current mission to get our defences up to our maximum ability is going well, although its quite an expensive operation... hopefully it'll turn out to be the best move when wartime comes

The plan I've been mulling over is this, wait until one month before winter and declare war. Since Austria has a larger, more advanced army this is where our cavalry will be superior. Our front line troops will scorch all the provinces they're stationed in and then flee one province back, either waiting for the enemy to become extremely weakened from attrition or preparing to scorch that land.

When the enemy has become extremely weakened from attrition, the cavalry will surround them by taking the provinces behind them and cutting them off from reinforcements followed by destroying the invading armies, driving their WW through the roof.

With the likelyhood of the creation of Infantry armies with artillery, I'm trying to decide where they could be stationed so they won't be destroyed during the early days of the operation, as they're too slow to burn and run as this plan calls for.

Closer look at our enemy, while I wait for my defenses to be built anyway

A helpful local commander helps the war effort, saving the government a large chunk of money

and bloody hell, they're getting even bigger

The Russian navy is getting a giant boost, this war will not be only fought on the land...

Get the French, Scandinavians, and Papacy in on it

Scandinavia is a little sore over my destruction of their union when I invaded to push their border away from my capital, thereby taking Finland, the revolts they suffered were so bad that only Sweden remained under the title of Scandinavia. They've since pulled themselves together but I bet they're still sore about it.

France is right now in the Holy Roman Empire and is in fact voting for Austria, they aren't allies but they prefer them to us.

Papal States is possible, but I doubt they'd prefer the Orthodox Heretics to the loyal Catholic Austrians :p

Pie Charts are nice, do you not agree?

also in accordance with the doctrine of General Metro; 60,000 Non-Cavalry Troops have been commissioned and stationed deeper in the Ukraine to avoid the inital confrontation

I recommened we use a classic pincer movements of cavalry aronud the enemy to encircle them. How many stacks does Austria have that it wil lsend against us? Do we have any allies? Anyone we can ally with?

We have a four province ally near Siberia, but they're unlikely to be much help

Russia is outgunned, behind in tech and on its own.... thus the fun :p

In preparation for war with Austria I've been looking into their allies to find who I can declare war on and count for them to come to the party

eu3game2009-04-1015-34-57-93.jpg

Cornwall and Peru aren't really of any danger to us so this will be a one on one fight, after laying claims to the throne of Cornwall and declaring war we're ready to face off with the giant Austrian Empire

Let Battle be joined!

Naturally when faced with possible destruction, the best thing to do is exercise our democratic rights and elect a new leader

And the opening moves of the war:

or nevermind, it turned out slightly interesting but not enough to warrant writing about

basically, I learned that scorched earth tactics don't work with high level forts as the enemy's largest armies often come in under the limit that would cause atrition

Which scenario is this? Or did you start as someone else, then take over Russia?

I won but only by going on the offensive and defeating them normally, I likely would not have won had Austria not just finished an earlier war with someone. Their BB started out at 9 and I was only capable of getting it up to 18
