As can be seen I do not have MSN running. I also unistalled windows messengera week ago. What is going on here?

:hmm: What the hell is that conversation? Are you being difficult, MarineCorps?;)

Oh yes, that... I used to have the problem too, that WIndows Messanger was automatically laucnhing at startup and logging in via my MSN passport. Forget how to kill it now though :(.

Yeah, but MarineCorps is not logged on (see systray icon)! How did the message come to his console?

That might be one version of messenger whils he actually has another version running as well which he is signed in with...

Good Q. I have no idea what was going on with that. He just said FINE!.

@dell: Nope I expanded the tray and WM was not running. If it helps at all I unistalled it from the add remove programs thing,

That's the Windows Update icon in the tray, are you installing something? IIRC it's only visible when installing or downloading and it can't be the latter since you're offline.

BTW, MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger are different programs.

Yeah. I know they are two different programs. Windows update thing always appears when ever I turn on the computer. Never bother to look at it.

My hypothesis is that MC was connected to MSN, and that message arrived just before disconnecting. Would MSN add a line to the message window saying it had been disconnected? (I don't use that software: see http://www.jabber.org)

DAMN YOU M$! :amd: Aperently removing windows exploer from the add remove panel does nothing besides not allow you to open it from the start menu:rolleyes: I found a thing in the usefull threads thread about removing it. Hopefully it is gone now.

Yep...

Btw did you make sure to actually exit MSN messenger completely before uninstalling it rather than just logging out as that might cause problems...

You may want to take a look at gaim as well. It hasn't been plagued by the security holes that trillian has, and it's truely free (gpl license and all that). It lets you do all the standard things as well, such as chat on multiple services, transparancy, minimize to tray, tabbed chats, all the normal features.

MC, out of interest, why are you getting rid of messenger?

I unistalled Windows messanger. Not MSN.

@ainwood: buffer-overrun security hole...? And as to the patches, I am on 56k. :(
