I recently finished a game which lacked marble alltogether - not a single source in the entire world!

Was this just a 'freak accident', or did the fact that I played on a 'rocky' map a role?

Has it happened to anybody else that one type of resource was missing entirely?

what mapsize did you use?

I've never had a map with an entire lack of one resource, but I did just play a large pangea with only two horses. I went to war just for the horse.

I played a map without horses. That kind of messed things up for some of the competition.

I think it would be interesting to have some resources lacking all together, talk about rewriting history ...

I dunno what I'd do if I played all the way up to physics only to discover there was no uranium.

Cheat probably ;)

Give 2 sources to my weakest neighbour (for me to take) and another to my strongest enemy (to make things fun).

If you play on a 'great plains' map there will be some missing resources and some much rarer than usual (there's usually less than 5 fish-type resources on the whole map), though I think most of the 'needed for unit' ones are around.

That's even worse than no marble. In the end, all it meant for me that I passed all world wonders except Oracle.

Come to think of it, it propably worked in favour of me. If any of the AI had had marble, I doubt I would have built the Oracle. :hmm:

I had 'No cheating' ticked so it was out of question. :D

Now maybe the AI built cities on top of the resources, or they were in some obscure corner of the globe.

I had game recently without horses.

Large archi on noble.

The real pisser of it all is that I was playing as Isabella.

I checked underneath every city, nobody had marble.

And there were no islands either. I guess that's a 'balanced map' feature?

Balaced gives everyone a share fo iron/copper/horse.

I had an oasis map yesterday with no Horses iin it at all, And ont tile of alimininum. (which i got and won SR)

Map Im currently on has one marble.... in the middle of an ice field, on the other side of the world from me.

Where is the balanced map option? I would never want to do it, but have never seen it.

You can selected it when creating a new map. For instance you can choose Pangea, continents or balanced.

It'd be nice if there were a map analyzer that could do pretty much what you'd do if you were to open the world editor to check to see whether a map is worth playing on or has some major defect -- it could tell you the situation as a go-no go thing without spoiling any secrets and ruining the game for you if the map's fine as is. I've given a little thought to how one might write such a thing... Hm, we'll see.
