I think it makes things easier. Since tech is faster, you can tech so fast that units obselete. I also think that industrious get a greater boost since each tile worked has double effect.
I said this in the last AP thread....
Accelerated Production completely confuses me when I play with it. I play the game based on the fact that I know how long it will take for my cities to grow, and hence getting the timing right on when to build settlers, Granaries etc. As Padma said, it was introduced to speed Multiplayer games up, so most people don't bother using it (even for multiplayer). Thats AFAIK, don't quote me on it
I voted no in the poll. To answer what accelerated production does: it cuts the values of everything in half (units, buildings, base tech costs). Therefore, the games progress very quickly, something welcome in MP games, but definitely not for this guy in SP games.
I also don't hold to the theory that my civ game should go the course of history. I don't have a problem with Modern Armor in 1200AD.
BTW: If you don't change the coded limit of 4 turns per tech minimum, it doesn't actually make the techs cheaper. For it to be truly half price, you would need to change this. But I have found it does get me techs quicker in the beginning of the game, because I can expand quicker. So I'm getting to the 4 turns per tech quicker.
i always have, always will.
i believe that there is no point in waiting ages just to build a temple to get a city going and its not cheatign since the AI has exactly the same advantage as you, so it makes no difference to he game other than you can build up your empire earlier rather than still pumping out settlers in AD times, i can fill in all the gaps in the known world with cities when still in BC times on large maps if i get a good start.
