this is it. I'm not in a bad position. But when i played on chieftain lvl in ci 2 i could win on all lines with my arms tied and eyes closed...

ive got conquest and am fully patched... why cant i play this save?

I play AP mainly when I want to play nice long empire games.. most of which last for 25-26 hours..

I think AP doesn't make a difference Monarch upwards (PTW here, I haven't played C3C yet), as the computer is very aggressive in getting techs and actually uses its brains (sometimes)

As far as realism goes...please:p...America in 4000 BC threw the realism away a long back;)

We all want a game which challeges us, yet doesn't a month to finish;)

What if someone were to play Sid difficulty with AP mode, with an actual settings of huge map, 60% ocean island maps, wet and warm climate, 5 billion years, and 8 rivals?

I don't think this is worth playing on Pangaea even on 60% ocean as Sid AI expands twice as aggresive as in original mode and gobble all the land you want to settle unless your map doesn't have 15 rivals on huge maps.

I would think that one would need a lot of luck for that...

I never turn Accelerated production on unless if it's already on, because then in my opinion, the game is less realistic.

So you'd be considered less skilled beating the comp on Regent with AP than without?

longest awaited answer :)

my theory is that AP amplifies the levels, ie chieftain / warlord become easier, regent remains the same, a level footing, and then monarch and above become progressively harder than regular moancrch and above

AP hurts the AIs on higher levels because it makes them build too many units and kill themselves with support. That's my theory, at least.

Just wondering which Industrious civ is the easiest/hardest in my opinion to play as in Accelerated Production mode. NOTE: I haven't tried all the ind civs until the end of each game due to slow turns and such.

Easy:
Mayans - Agricultural trait will help us expand our empire quicker and be able to produce Javalin Throwers twice as fast to surround the barbarian camps to see how many we could enslave the barbarians units.
Egyptians - With religious trait, we don't have to worry about the long boring turns of Anarchy, which would cripple the whole empire. If the Egyptians have horses, they'll be crazy enough to build thousands of War Chariots to raid all the enemy territory like fire ants and cover their empire with yellow.

Average: (Mostly warmongering Civs)
Chinese - Their UU, Riders can trigger well balanced Golden Age to see if one of your cities have 35 shields to produce up to 20 Riders at the end of GA and trash any annoying neighbors stands in your way.
Austria - Same as Chinese, except their UU, Hussar(costs 40 shields) comes in late.
Ottomans - If we manage to research Military Tradition before Industrial Ages, It's clobbering time!! if it's possible to have cities producing 25 shields to build Sipahis and Tanks per 2 turns and use them for an apocalyptic war. (I think most people play this civ on above Monarch/Emperor level)
Persians - Heh, I like to see someone else to surround the enemy territory or empire with infinite amount of mighty Immortals along with thier Immortal armies.

Difficult: French - Some people say Commercial trait won't be of much use since it's possible for all non-commercial civs to research any technologies at minimum 4 turns as long as the civs have large empires and metropolis.

Varies:
Americans - Depends on the difficulty level and map settings. (As far as I know, all the goody huts on Sid difficulty only gives you gold, map, and units)
Carthagians - If you're playing on island maps to make Seafaring trait more valuable.

I tried it once. I didn't like the snail's pace of population growth compared to the production/tech growth.

You people who never play AP must have the patience of saints.... I can't play otherwise.

Does anyone know when the average player (of equally average skill) would hit the different eras with and without AP on... roughly?

Hmm, I haven't yet made up my mind on this one. I guess If you don't have much time AP is ok, otherwise I would recommend to turn it off. It's more fun.

You can finish an Emperor game (SS victory) in as little as 14 hours without AP on in huge maps. The higher the level the more time the game takes. In Deity it's taken me this weekend 41 hours and a half the SS victory huge pangaea map with 8 civs on it.

Ever since I first tried AP Ive never gone back. I dont have lots of time to sit around playing civ3 so I find it speeds up the game nicely. :goodjob:

Well well well, haven't times changed. i used to play AP all the time and couldn't get over regent. now i'm playing non-AP, the game has become many times easier.
