Acid_04: The final frontier

Hi, just read your Sg. I am impressed. I hope you can win it. :)

I think, the paintings are made in the global view. Zoom out, push the left button (bottom right corner) and there you can erase the lines.

I am still on turn one. Japan could sign peace, if we give Visigoth in return.
I am actually in favor of doing exactly that, his power graph is just getting bigger and I think we should take this chance while we can. Just wanted to see what you guys think. Also getting to UN will take lots of turns, not sure if we'll get there at all. That's why i think we should get peace and start working on population since it's the only way out of this.

I don't like giving him a base on our land really, maybe we should try for tech-for-peace and trade for electricity too (Medicine?). I don't know. It seems to me he should be the one paying us off not the other way round, or be willing to accept a straight up ceasefire seeing how many tanks we killed :/

I am with uberfish on this. Don't give him a city, he would come back later on anyway and the base would make it much easier for him to attack.

I understand what you'r saying but, having a base or not on our continent doesn't mean anything when his next closes city is two tiles away if you catch my drift. His powergraph is huge and i think we are lucky we can get away like this. He also built SS casting same turn (1st one? didn't checked).
I won't play this yet, really have to think over this, but I'm in favor of getting peace now. He won't be paying us anything with that powrgraph he has

take your time acid...we need to come up with a miracle here to win this..and CIV doesn't provide the last minute comback miracles...usually

Turn 7 (1802) - More transports drop off stuff. Civ 4 was really not designed for fighting with this number of units, I think I am getting WW myself. Destroy 15 tanks or so + assorted marines and artillery. The scary thing is this is hardly making a dent in Toku's power graph and he can happily sit in universal suffrage despite us having killed an insane amount of tanks. We have draft weariness, but can go back into nationalism.
I was surprised to read this from you, but it actually sums up my own CIV weariness...Being the warmonger at heart, CIV is just not made for that....it's a hybrid, but not a warmonger game that Civ always was.

Actially check, will he accept his old small city for peace insted of Visigoth.

I like to have Visigoth because it narrow a place when he will attack and gives as view on his border city.

Because of position he will not collect his forces in his old, useless city.

I'll check it tommorow, i was in rush today but i think he only wanted Visigoth.

I'm just cautious, he might land crapload of tanks in next few turns and then we doomed

War was fun in our vanilla Immortal games, but these current AIs we are playing with just have way too many units which makes fighting rather tedious.

All we have to do is maintain enough artillery around and Toku will not be able to invade us successfully, since he only drops units at Visigoth and Hakodate. Artillery spam is a very overpowered method of defence. From a repairing relations as quickly as possible to build UN perspective, maybe giving him a city isn't so bad. (We must work on our population in case someone else builds UN first though.)

Yes, untill AI learn to do Amphibious Arty + amount of units > then he can land in one time practically garanty defence.

I remember reading that Blake added amphibious ability to AI latelly?

AIs attacking amphibiously would make quite some games a real pain - especially when they decide to autoraze. As is you are quite save as long as you stay on your own continent and have some water between you and your opponent as you can lay down the mighty artillery smack on them.

AIs sneaking troops down on you in galleys is annoying enough. With amphibious, I might actually need to build some troops in my coastal cities

Right, but, did anyone actually look at the difference between out powergraphs here?? I see we can pretty much hold our situation for next few turns as is. But it might become necessary to switch to Nationalism and draft/whip, while raising our WW at the same time, and lowering our population. Since we can't do anything agains Japan on their continent anyway, what's the point of prolonging this war on our side, if we are actually trying to get as high population as possible for UN, and the game is about to end anyway? And i doubt Japan will declare again on us. And we still don't know what's Alex up to.
I was thinking of giving up Visigoth (i still have to check if he'll take his city back), and filling some gaps with a city or two. And i honestly doubt we'll be the one first to UN. I don't care if Shaka builds it but it will be a problem if Toku gets it first. But i'll be glad if i'm wrong.

Toku will probably beat us to UN it's true. Normally when the AI does get Radio early it gets mass media too. It's probably still our best chance, maybe the fighting caused him to de-prioritise mass media and UN.

All right, what about this. We let Toku have Visigoth but plant a settler on the city ruins near it quickly so we get those tiles back. Once we can trade with Toku and get our fishy stuff back online we solve our health problems. Build a lot of wealth/research and run caste to try and get the techs we need and switch to some other plan if Toku builds UN first.

Yeah, I think I decided and will give him that city.
The other thing I'm trying to figure out is, raising our culture slider very high and just completely concentrating on growing our cities as large as possible, even if it means stagnating our research (and farming over cottages). Because chasing technologies now is meaningless, we can't win space race, we can't win culturally, we can't win on time, etc. Only way is UN and growing cities, but even that I'm not sure of. Not trying to be pessimistic about our situation or anything...

If we build UN I'm pretty sure we win straight off. If toku builds UN then we can't win by UN as he and Shaka will have too much population, we will have to try war somehow.

We can't fight offensive war with our current tech though. I would recommend we research Mech Inf if we have to fight, partially because they are 2 move and can't be obsoleted, partially because they are draftable, and partially because the AIs will upgrade all their cavalry to gunships soon enough. A couple of nukes to destroy Shaka's initial SoD could also be rather useful here if we can swing that somehow.

If Alex would declare on Toku then hopefully Toku wouldn't build UN and you would just have to worry about defending against Shaka...
