Acquiring new techs

I tried the "search" function for an answer but it doesn't work.....

In Civ2 when you captured an enemy city of a more advanced civ you got a list of his techs to choose from. Does Civ3 work the same way?

Nope, only spies and trades can get tech from another civ.

No, the city conqueror doesn't acquire techs in Civ 3.

In civ3, you would try to aquire the techs as part of a peace deal.
