I am just wondering if there is any way to add onto the current tech tree for CivIV in a mod without changing the actual file that the game uses. I want to make actual future techs according to what may come out in the future irl. I wanna make the mod so that you would start out in ancient times like normal and everything and then instead of 'Future Tech' there's actual techs with buildings and units and stuff.

cool idea :) i also heate "future technologies" - game should be made in the way you can discover new technologies if you're smart enough to have possibilities to reach them before 2050 :) or one of the other victories. There is fusion energy, genetics, robotics so why don't make maglev trains, virtual reality, Secrets of Human Brain :p; storm weapon technology, nanotechnology, microvawe weapons, synthetic feuls, and so on....

but how you wanna make mod without changing files? :D
I don't thonk it's possible ;)
Maybe you should read tutorial - adding new technology (it isn't tough)

If you mean; "Is it possible to mod the game without changing any files at all?"

Then, sorry, not possible.

If you mean; "Is it possible to mod the game without changing the original files?"

Then, yes, absolutly. A proper mod should not alter any of the original files. If you look in the Tutorials section, I am pretty sure there is a HOW TO on editing the Techs.

I didn't actually find a tutorial on how to do it, but i pretty much figured it out by looking at other mods included with the game.

I was actually going to ask for ideas on new techs with this post too, gladly asioasioasio gave me a few ;) thanx...but i am still looking to add some more. I am actually looking for graphics editors and people willing to help me with this project too, so anyone willing to help, just send me a private message through here, ill get back to you asap :)

Thanx for the help,
Michelle (Wompie)

P.S. I'm going to be adding buildings, wonders, gov types, and units of course to go with these techs, so if you got some ideas of what should go with the techs, just post on here ;)

I was thinking of adding at least 2 of each types future units.
So far i've got:
Tech: Supercomputers Buildings:Supercomputer Laboratory Wonders:IBM Units: F-22 Fighter, F-35 Fighter, Vertical Takeoff Carrier
Tech: Fusion Energy Buildings: Fusion Power Plant Units: Fusion Warhead
Tech: Magnetic Levatation Terrain Improvements: Maglev Track
Tech: Virtual Reality Buildings: Virtual Reality Theater Units: Robotic Infantry
Tech: Hover Technology Units: Hover Tanks
Tech: Nano Technology Wonders: Nanobot Health Lab Units: Super Soldiers
Tech: The Human Genome Wonders: Crack The Human Genome(will add happiness and get rid of all sickness, National Wonder)
Tech: High Powered Lasers Units: Laser Infantry, Laser Cruiser, Laser Tank(Used Against Air Units)
Tech: True Stealth Buildings: Advanced Radar Units: F-22 True Stealth Fighter, Advanced Radar Truck
Tech: Ramjet Engines Units: Aurora Bomber

Ok here's a guide:

Here's A more detailed CIV 4 Tech Tree wich helps with planning (with paper nad pencil;) to add new techs

And spreadsheat useful while trying to figure out where new techs should go so they don't run into each other.

i'm gonna think more techs but those you have mentioned are cool . Did you played supreme ruler 2010? There are many near future technologies in this game

"Did you played supreme ruler 2010? There are many near future technologies in this game"

nar, i've never played it before :/

I'm trying to think up what techs are currently in development or could be within the next 20 years. Kind of hard to do, but i do a lot of research into hyperdimensional physics, and quantum mechanics, so im pretty much up to date with what could be theoretically. And ive even got one or two theories of my own.

I wanna make it as realistic as possible and even have full entries in the civlopaedia. :)

Oh and thanx for the tech tree that'll really prove usefull :D
