ADDING UNITs TO C3C: Thorough Guide for the Newbie

You are a God, Colonel! Thankfully I didn't post my question b/c I would've felt like a complete moron. It took a lotta patience to find it, but I did! I was also having problems with my scenario crashing as soon as I built the first city. I use Irfanview for the pcx file, and it would automatically change the color depth. For the future I will just use the same program that you guys use. As a newbie, thanks to all for this site! :D

I got a question: I want to add units to C3C but not in a mod. I want to start the game, have a random map etc. and have the units I've added! But for me it looks like I can only add to mods the new units. Any ideas?

But like this the game wont know when the unit can be built and what it needs, wont it? So I would have to use something like the editor for the main civ!

What you could do is make a senario in the editor with only the custom rules tab checked, the add your unit. This way when you load the senario it will let you pick options for the random map like in a reagular game. :) This is probably as close as it gets to what you want.

I haven't seen this addressed anywhere. I followed the tutorial (I think.) I can't get the graphics which I downloaded to show up in the senerio editor. Where/how do u get the units to show up in the editor?

Civ3Edit uses Units_32 for all in-program unit graphics. There is a link on the first post to Zulu's tutorial in the matter:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75413
But for a quickie explanation, put your unit in units_32, go to your unit in the units tab under rules in the editor, and scroll through icons in the only 'graphical' bit until you find the one you want to represent your unit.

A general question about mods and conquests, which probablly does not belong here... I'm overwhelmed by the amount of topics and threads on this forum.
I haven't installed any mod's as of yet. I was wondering...
Is there a way to use these mods, and or the mods in the conquests scenarios (WWII in the pacific).. in a standard game ?
Or, do all mods, including the WWII, only become available while playing a scenario specific game, using always the same map, always the scenario specific rules etc... ?
Thank you, clearly, a newbie

Consider browsing through (at least) post 3 from here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=114696
(the same link is in my sig)

I say that because I answer that question there. Most "Mods" are geared towards use on a random map. The "Conquests" would be called "Scenarios" for this forums' sake.
All mods, scenarios, and otherwise are stored under "Civ-Content", and installing mods doesn't affect your original game in any way (if you install them right, I mean).

GRM7584,
Thanks.
Colonel Krakens "How to add unts to C3C" is the thread I had read, prior to my 1st post, above. As well as all the war academy threads. Been here a few days reading.
I've setup the directory structure as his tutorial outlines, ready to install any mod units I like as per his instructions.... When I thought perhaps I don't have to do all that..
Basically, I'd like to use the 'WWII in the pacific' units, meaning, there's nothing to edit at all. It's already done. But I'd like to use them from the "new game" option on the title screen. Rather than running the WWII scenario. And from Krakens tutorial, it seems it's just a matter of editing the original 'conquests.biq', 'Scenario Properties'->"Scenario Search Folders" to include the path 'Conquests\WWII in the pacific' folder ?
If not, I'll soon find out. (just have to backup the original) and...
Thanks again for your reply

You'd be better off making it into its own little mod...it will still function the same way as the epic game, you would just have 2 extra clicks when you wanted to start a new one...this would save you a bit of trouble if you ever decided you wanted the original game unmodified (plus no backup making, as you implied). I'm also not sure if the plain ol' conquests.biq handles scenario search folders appropriately, whereas I do know that a mod file in the scenarios folder will indeed work in the way you want it to, with information you already have. So, summarily: Open conquests.biq, save as... and put it in the scenarios folder. Then do the scenario properties thing and add "../Conquests/wwII/" without quotes in the search line. So long as you aren't referencing any other scenario or mod folders at the same time, that should be enough for your purposes; then you just have to make a pediaicons that corresponds to the new data you put into civedit.

Hi every one! This is my first post and first time adding a new unit. Well I am expensing technical difficulties. I did as the tutorial said and went to test it. Every thing works fine in the city map I can even select it to build but when it comes time for it to be done nothing happens. I don’t get any errors or any thing. It just won’t build it. Got any clues to my madness¿

Test your new unit in the debug mode (explained in the tutorial). Start up the scenario, push [Shift][F1] and select your unit from the list. Click on the map to place your unit. If the unit shows up and works fine here, I'm not sure what to tell you.

I've gotten all my downloaded units to work, they show up correctly, attack correctly, everything.

However, when I go to my science advisor tab, it tells me that my mod\art\units\(name)Small.pcx does not exist. I've double checked my #icon_PRTO entry and its all perfect. The file name of the picture matches my entry, and the pcx itself is not corrupt. The only thing I could really see it being is that I renamed the folder and the INI to something other than what the pcx was. But, everything else works like I mentioned, you'd think nothing would work if the game simply didn't like a differently named folder and INI.

Any clue what the problem could be?

I try to add pediaicons in a folder in the Civ III/Conquests/Scenarios folder, except whenever I start [c3c] the game exits, and says im missing a pediaicons for the unit I just made!!!! :aargh: :aargh:
please help the poor newbie :help:

PS do you think i should get a new avatar? :)

I have a question how do u make a unit that u can only have one of? I tired to make a pirate scenario that u (the pirates) have a ship named the bounty but I want the unit to already be there but to where u cant make another one. I want it to have the man of war graphics but different civilipedia entry, how do i do it?

I hope in Civ 4 simply taking a unit like the Stone Crossbowman from the Sengoku Scen. or the Longboat from the middle ages scenario would be easier..... I wanted to make a scenario with simply all the units from the conquests plus the original ones..... i thot it was simply the changing the scenario search folder and changing the PRTO.........i guess im wrong.

Anyway: My question is: Which file is the INI file? When i open the unit file like u said in ur tutorial, i see several files, but they are all either sounds or things like Infantry fidget, infantry fortify, move, and so on. Then their is also a configuration setting file, but besides that, i dont see any INI file. What is it?
