Recently started a game playing on a large map.
I usuall play with Normal size and have noticed that I'm getting a large number of Advanced Tribes when I pop huts.
Can anyone tell me are the odds of a hut uncovering an Advanced Tribe greater on a larger map...?
Thanks.

Yep. That's the source! :goodjob:

The reason you may be getting more ATs on the larger map is that you are more likely to be more than 12 squares from another city and on an empty continent if the map is bigger. This condition increases the likelihood of ATs.

The other possibility is that because the map is bigger and there are more huts, or you just felt it was more important to expore the big map, so it may just seem like you're getting more.

Advanced Tribes are a blessing AND a curse: they are usually located just off of the focal point of several specials (there is a link between special locations and hut locations), and their sudden appearance far from your capital can send home cities into disorder if you are on the edge of the critical number of cities for your size map. Getting one in GOTM 27 so screwed up my game I gave it up rather than spend the time and money to disband it and relocate.

Bigger map equals more huts, and if you start with lots of small islands each will have an increased chance of producing either Nomad or AT.

Wow!
Just read Samson's thread. He is indeed a giant of Civ.
I have been exploring the map a lot and all the AT's are off on their own in the middle of nowhere miles from anyone.
Thanks all.:goodjob:

Later in the game (cant remember the breakpoint, something like 1000 or 1500AD) an AT will come size 3 or so, with random selection of Temple, Marketplace, Library, Harbor, etc. Sell whatever to buy a Courthouse ASAP, or better yet to disband into a Nomad and bring home. ATs also screw up bribing Barbs and other units for NONEs, as they may be closer than other civ cities.
