Hi,

I am fairly new to the latest civ version. I am noticing that it is not straightforward to gauge the relationships AI civs have with each other. On a previous version of civ there was like a 'round table' where you could see who had what treaty with who and what their general attitude to each other was. Here, on Civ BNW, you cannot even ask another civ what he thinks of another civ.

Also, could someone please explain or point me to advice, on how 'warmongering' is managed by the game. I am reading that you are hit very badly for unreasonably long periods if you start a war.

Many Thanks!!

Hey Skip,

I never remember seeing a "round table" in Civilization V, or being able to ask another civ what it thinks of another civ. However, you can check "Global Diplomacy" to see who has denounced whom, and see which civilizations are currently locked in war. You can always consult Global Diplomacy before making a declaration of friendship, denunciation, or declaration of war.

Generally, declaring war on two different civilizations earns you the title, "warmonger". Declaring war on a third civilization shall earn you mass denunciations and hate. Use your DoWs wisely, and only attack when necessary!

Yes, in a previous version there was a screen with all the civ's and lines with different colours from one civ to another (red if they are at war, etc).

Another question for anyone... road building.... as it's now so expensive are there general recommendations or do's and don'ts for road building?

Thanks again...

The round table is in the diplomacy screen still.
As far as roads, in general you should only use them to connect cities to your capital, and then only if the city size exceeds the tile length of the road connection.

.

Yep. It was nice and easy to see in one go what was what.

Well now you have to select the diplomacy list (top right hand corner). Depending on how many Civs there are you may have to scroll. There`s a small list beside each on who is at war with whom, etc.

Not as nice or intuitive. There was no need to alter it.

Well, you can get a general sense of that by opening the Diplomacy Overview and going to the "Global Politics" tab. It won't tell you precisely what opinion every AI civ has of every other one, but it will tell you who has DoF-ed/Denounced/is at war with whom (it also tells you who's built what wonders, which "might" be helpful when deciding who to attack...)

Do you mean in Civ4? In Civ4 there was a built in foreign advisor that showed relations as you described them. I've never heard of that being in Civ5 without mods. And there is a mod called Info Addict that does that. I would recommend it if you want a diplo table like Civ4 had.

Welcome to Civfanatics, btw.
