I've been playing Civ4 for years. Literally, since it came out. Recently, my game has been crashing and the only details I can get is that the "Runtime has caused the program to close in an unusual way". Granted, this may have been my fault for messing around with the XML files and not doing a good job of backing up the originals.

No big deal. I uninstalled everything right down to uninstalling Civ4 vanilla. I restart the computer and reinstall everything (fully patched Civ4 vanilla, BTS 3.17, BTS 3.19 patch).

The game itself has installed. HOWEVER, neither installs have created the "My Documents\My Games\Civilization 4" or "My Documents\My Games\Beyond The Sword" files. There's just nothing there. This is so frustrating since I've been playing the game for like 7+ years and NOW I'm getting problems?

Does anyone know why the installation did not create the "My Documents\My Games" folders/files? WTH is going on!?!? Thanks ahead of time.

So does no one have any idea about this? Never seen this before? Or is no one looking at the Tech Support forums anymore?

May pay to uninstall again and then run "ccleaner" on the registry and then install as per my thread at the top of this forum.

Yeah, I got it to work after another uninstall, but restarted the system in between uninstall & reinstall which seems to have cleared out the registry. Also, installing civ in the c:\ root directory might have helped. Changing permissions and running as administrator might also have done the trick. Whichever it was, thanks for responding.
