...do you continue on, and if so, how deep have you gone into a game (in terms of year)?

i have a game i won by spaceship victory around 1960 or so, but i'm still playing it in the year 2200.:crazyeye: i think i'm approaching the buck rogers age.

i really should start a new game, and i keep telling myself "one more turn", but i just can't stop playing this save. maybe i should download and run one of the space mods to keep up with current in game year.

When I win, I'm done, I enjoy the early game too much to not start another.

Funny this should show up today. I was deleting stuff from my civ3 folder and saw a game that I had played out to 2090AD. I quick look did not reveal a win or a lose prior to 2050. All civs were eliminated at 2090AD though.

It is not to unusal for me to play on some after a win to either kill off someone or to finish some land junk, very anal for sure.

I used to do it on civ2 years ago, and I did for a bit on civ3.
But these days once the game has ended I just don't have the motivation to carry on with it.

Like for instance just before I was in the middle of steamrolling the Russians and I won a cultural victory, so I ended it.
(I forgot to turn cultural victory off...again.)

Also I enjoy starting new games too much lol.

I really prefer the early part of the game, so victory is a good point to start a new one.

I don't pay much attention to victory conditions, it's about conquering the world and cleaning it up in-between wars for me. I regularly go into the 2100 and 2200's.

I always stop when victory is achieved. In the later part of the game it gets to be a bit of a grind when you're trying to finish off the game. Admittedly I generally don't go for diplomatic victory - always thought of it as weak. After domination or space victory I start a new game.

I went a couple of turns past once and got annoyed at the screen constantly telling me I'd already won.

I agree wth Ataxerxes. I have never played a game after victory. I would never have clicked the 'one more turn' button if not for the GOTM 'turn after victory' submit. For me, once the game is won, its done. For me, that was the point of the game. I have been sad when some games end, though. Most of the time I am releived. That game is usually 'won' many turns ago and the last 2-3 hours of play are really formality.

One big problem for me is that even when the game is 'won', I can't stop MM everything. So I grind myself down on empire management even though I know they won't make a difference in a few turns. Even so, I still build that tank, bank, settler, worker, etc. I just can't stop.

I play until I win or time runs out. I can't remember ever going past 2050.

 It's in your system! I tend to do the same thing though, at least until the last turn when I want my victory already.

I rarely play after victory, but I usually do save the game post-victory, in case I should want to relive my glorious conquests at some later date - and indeed I have gone back and looked at the glory of some of my best empires. The few times I've played past 2050 have usually been after losses - very early games of mine that I'm curious to see if I could turn around and win.

That is interesting. I save my game on/around the turn I think I am going to win and keep that as my final save - much for the same reason though. In the back of my mind I think - hey, I could load it up and NOT win and keep playing, if I want . . .

Not that I ever do . . . :shifty:

Once youve won youve won, sometimes I think it would be nice to see the whole map, but even this cant motivate me to play on.

If I've got a huge slamdunk invasion I'm about to pull off and I unexpectedly trip over the cultural victory wire (that's happened twice now), I will certainly keep on playing. At that point my bloodlust is pumping and the game is all about the thrill of the slaughter, not some esoteric points system. On the other hand, if I'm going for a spaceship win and I suddenly bumble my way into a domination of the planet... I just quit. If I'm not going to be able to see my spaceship blast off movie (and that's really the only extrinsic reward one gets in Civ3), then I don't bother. I just love getting my rockets off at the end of a game. I should probably see someone about that.

Oddly just last night I was tempted to continue playing after victory. I scored a 1650 AD Diplomatic win thanks to my enemy conquering part of my ally, and thus becoming the second-largest nation (behind myself). Everyone hated my enemy (I'd brought the whole world into a war against them earlier after they attacked me in an earlier war), so everyone voted for me - if my enemy hadn't conquered some more territory, I might not have won the diplomatic victory. But it was tempting to continue playing and invade them with some of my newfangled Modern Armor, as they just had Sipahi's (it wasn't the AI's day, and playing Regent instead of Monarch?Emperor didn't help the AI). I didn't, but if I ever feel like the AI needs to relearn who the master is... :trouble:

Felt odd to be rooting for my well-established enemy.
