AG8 - Let's try Sid

Looking good Aggie

Got it

Ted

Suits me, as I wasn't planning on starting till tomorrow :)

Ted

Oh, I forgot to tell: The Portuguese and Inca lack Coal  Rome has it though, but lacks saltpeter! The other two get saltpeter from us :hmm:

EDIT: We might be thinking about stealing Industrialization from Portugal when Byzantines are gone. A declaration of war by them suits us :)

I am thinking with the whole continent at our disposal we should go for a real war vs Portugal. If we allied the Incas and Romans on our side, I think we can work on destroying the biggest threat of the game. That will make the win easy after that. I think the that not going after the biggest civ risks that civ getting stronger making things harder in the end. Right now there is enough balance that war with Portugal is very doable. With rails we risk little by trying to do so as Portugal will not be able to land.

At this point I think we should stay at war until we get domination.

Wow, we're looking in very good shape!

Personally, I think we can carry on the wars until this game is won. I don't even see the need for tanks - did you guys know that you can RUSH armies now? I would suggest that we rush armies with our cash, and fight with Cav armies.

The Portugese look tasty, and lets not forget they have Constantinople which is ours by right! :D

I totally agree with Portugal. My scenario would be:

-Kill off Byzantines in the next turn (doable ;) )
-Steal Industrialization from the Portuguese
-When that fails resulting in war: take the cities on our continent and get alliances with Rome and the Inca
-When it succeeds: demand them to leave and expect war
-Focus on the northernmost part of their empire, far away from their core

Thinking about it a bit more, I believe that it is better to land in the Portuguese core. That is closer to our continent and prevents sinking of our ships. We will also be able to ship troops faster. As long as we cover the troops by at least one cav army we should be OK. The AI unfortunatelly won't attack it (I hate this bug, but hey this is my first Sid attempt), because other weaker troops are running around (from the Romans and Incans).

And yes, let's rush these armies and go an all out military route. We should be able to finish this quickly!!

Hmm. Galleons have a capacity of 4? We only have Galleons right? :crazyeye:

Looks like invading the other continent won't happen quite as soon as we thought. :(

Ya, its a real problem with size 4 armies (i.e. size 5 total).

I think we can invade anyway. We will generate armies in the fighting. The key is the alliances and they will keep us from being overwhelmed.

For homeland defense can be stripped quite bare. The armies that are size 4 will be more than adequate to defend.

It is a good idea to not add the 4th dude when you are mopping up the continent. I forgot to mention it though.

In other words, I think we should continue our plan even without any armies. SID troop levels should help to get them I would think. We can also rush armies as mentioned before and we should be up and running fairly quickly.

We can send armies to the other continent. Simply rush a couple of them and add three units. I'm sure that a 3 unit cav army won't be attacked, but if we want to be totally sure we can send a 3 unit rifle army as well. This one can also go pillaging.

I've had a look at the save and think that Aggie's plan of killing off the Byzantines followed by an attempt at stealing Industrialisation from Portugal is the right way to go.

I'll attempt the first few turns after lunch and see how things go :)

Ted

Well,

I've finally finished turn 1 :)

Byzantium is consigned to the scrap heap of history (for the loss of 1 elite & 1 vet Cavalry)
AG08-1210AD.jpg

I'm going to take 1 or 2 turns to heal & position troops ready for strikes on Portugese holdings on our continent. We'll have to provoke them into declaring on us as we still have 8 turns left on the lux deal.

It's taken a little over 2.5 hours to get this far so I'm going to have a break and come back to the game this evening.

Ted

It is good to see the Byzantines are finally gone; soon the continent will be ours.

I agree on taking the time to set up for the Portugal war; they are big and sid.

It really appear that if you give a civ a righteous pummelling they won't declare war on you. Normally this is a bother, but I like the positive side of being able to steal all you want before espionage; you don't go to war; you just anger them. It would be interesting to see if they have a limit, but my guess is no.

So you just beat on a civ until they are willing to give you a city (for example) and then make peace. Then see if you can rob them blind. I wonder if putting gpt on your side helps keep them peaceful?

Nearly at the end of turn 4 & our continent is free of foreigners. Constantinople had Leonardo's Workshop :D

Ted

Just a quick update...

Turn 8 and we've landed two 3 Rifle Armies NW of Guimaraes :) The Portugese have only landed one invasion force so far and that was dealt with sharply and without loss.

I should get the last 2 turns finished this afternoon.

Notes
I concentrated my efforts on inter-city rail links, coastal rail links & production improvements in our core. Although very time consuming we now have 15 towns producing 20spt or more (after waste) so we could go on a Culture or Science binge in the not too distant future as our military strength should be sufficient to bring down Portugal.

Gayagaahe & Kiohero are on their way to hitting the 20spt and the next player should be able to finish off the job next turn. Allegheny should be capable of over 30spt with some attention.

Salamanca's Army build could be hurried this turn to get another Cav army over to Portugal ASAP.

There are 5 Galleons in Faro ready to transport units next turn. I haven't loaded them to allow the next player freedom of choice.

Our SoD Northwest of Guimaraes comprisies a 3 Rifle army (+ Vet Rifle to load next turn), a 3 Cav Army (+ Vet Cav to join next turn), 4 Cannon and an Elite Cav (for opportunistic killing of stray Portugese units).

Nearly all our spare units are in Faro presently. I've been over-garrisoning when ships are in port (As is the case now). Our Cannon are fortified West of Salamanca to make them easier to find.

The save is > here <
