This is my first time ever playing a PBEM so bear with me if I don't do everything right. I am however, a responsible person who is willing to check my email every day and carry out all the functions a PBEM player is expected to carry out, and I expect everyone who joins to be a responsible and organized player as well.

The game we will be playing will be the Age of Discovery scenario with some basic changes.

House Rules:

  • No type of technology may be traded with the AI players.
  • Cities in Europe may NOT be destroyed, but may change hands.
  • Cities in America or elsewhere MAY be destroyed and can also change hands.
  • Catholic and Protestant Monarchies cannot initiate Mutual Protection Pacts, Military Alliances or Rite of Passage agreements. If a government change results in a MPP, MA or ROP between a Catholic or Protestant Monarchy, war much be declared to break the agreement, but the war does not need to actually be carried out.
  • If the host (myself) feels a new house rule needs to be added at any time during the game, he reserves the right to do so so long as the new rule does not negatively impact any of the players.

Order of Play & Players:
  • Spain - Phoenix_Fire91
  • England - wxwindmill
  • France - muzbang
  • Portugal - Unclaimed
  • Dutch - civplayah
  • Maya - AI
  • Inca - AI
  • Aztec - AI

If anyone has a deep desire to do so, the native civilizations may be played by human players, and if so any house rules affecting native civilizations will be declared null.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask! With that said, let the claiming of Civilizations begin!

Could you please change the name of your thread, you ee I already have thread named the same thing and confusion may arise.

Yeah, my apologies, I saw your thread but didn't know what to name mine, so I just named it the same. I don't really know what to change it to so "Second 'Age of Discovery' PBEM" will have to do. Hope that clears up any confusion =)

I'll pm a mod for you.You should pm a mod.

Errr, I thought I changed the title of the thread but I guess I can't. Sorry you had to PM a mod, I would have been I just noticed the actual title didn't change until today.

wxwindmill you got England!

civplayah are you still interested in playing even though it's Civilization III?

Yep, it's Complete, but you don't need Complete to play, just Civ3 and both it's expansions, and the latest patch (AKA, Complete).

Also, this is not a mod or a user-made scenario, it's included with the Conquests Expansion pack. It's accessed from the Conquests menu in them main menu. Therefore, no mod or download is needed to play =)

I signed you up for Dutch! Only two more mandatory slots remain, Portugal and France!

These rules come from a different pbem European game I was in. Please consider....

- Non-military units can not be used to block landings.
- Military units can be used to block landings, but with a maximum of 6 per area.
- Coastal cities must have at least 1 empty tile next to it for possible desembarks.

edit: Read some of the other Age of Discovery thread and saw some units have amphibious ability, so above are not really as important. Have not tried the conquests yet so I guess it's time to start checking them out.

Yes, based on my experience with Age of Discovery in C3C, those rules are rather necessary, so for the time being I'll keep them out. If it becomes and issue during the game we can take action but I don't really see that becoming too much of an issue.

Thanks for the suggestion though and I welcome any more as I am new to PBEM and suggestions as to house rules are appreciated. =)

I can be Portugal....
Why Inca, Maya and Azetc as AI?
Would be interesting to play there for me if any oponent want to play that zone too.

Like I said in the original post, you may play as the Maya, Aztec or Inca if you so desire, it's just they are a lot harder.

Ok... I'm not sure i will play... my apologize.
My time will permit most of my time 1 turn per week, mostly 2. So i think i better not play.

We just need two more people... Anyone interested?

If no one comes forward in another 2-3 weeks I'll make France and Portugal AI players.

Hello,

i'm not new to pebm... just new to english pebm,
i used to play french pebm but there are not enough player now...

I really like this scenar;

so france is still free, for a french like me, it's good !

i can play regularly, but have no internet at home (just at work where i take the save... then i play home... i use to play in maxi 48hour...)

I speak english like a spanish cow... so forgive me !

Just one word about rules :

i read :

- Non-military units can not be used to block landings.
- Military units can be used to block landings, but with a maximum of 6 per area.
- Coastal cities must have at least 1 empty tile next to it for possible desembarks.

==> in this mod, there are some units with the amphibian ability (medieval infantry, mousketmen), so it's not necessary i think !
you can clear a unit bloking, and then unload the ship.

I played this mod many times, one thing that is important is naval brigde.
I explain what i mean... you can load units in boat1 then travel to the location of boat 2 then the units unload of boat 1 to load in boat 2... etc
So that, with a bit of organisation, you can make unit travel around the world in 1 turn.

Then... some say that it's better to forbid this, but, as it's uncheckable, i prefer to allow it. I've already find stategy to cut the bridge... thants to corsair for example.

For the Amerindian civ... as AI... it's a problem because they are very weak...
Maybe it could be better to substitute them by barbarians, or to give them more power at start... by modifying their land... or adding them more good starting units.

Last point, the map... we all hav the same map, and we know where are the strategic ressources... so exploration is less important than it was at this era...

I played a game on this mod, where the map was made by a human, not a realistic map, just a mapthat noboby kwows. just to be in the same circumstances

SO... think about it... i may come back for another suggestions...

Thanks for the suggestions Muzbang, I'm new to this scenario so I didn't foresee any of that stuff. I don't really know how to edit the pre-loaded scenarios, so we'll probably just play them as they come, and if the natives are weak, well, that's that. I agree that the naval bridge should be legal, since it's hard to enforce and can easily be broken with some counter strategy.

I signed you up for France, and once we have Portugal we'll be ready to roll! Thanks for everyone's patience!
