Age of Discovery PBEM

I understand that this topic is quite old.

I like to play with Portugal. But the Calis already signed up to play with the Portuguese.

I have now only to wait for a new PBEM.

I apologize for my English.

I regard this thread as dead, as the thread starter has disappeared quite some time ago. If he returns you can have my space. I am out...

I still interested to play france.
So i dont know if the other still have motivation...
But i think that if 2 or 3 of them confirm their interest, we could start a game...

It seems that the topic is half dead. I still have desire to play. But it seems that this game really will not leave.

I do not know. I can play if they are continuing.

Sorry my English.

Hi,
I just sent a PM to all who had so far shown interest in this game. (Had to split it in two PMs, because civfanatics allows a maximum of only 5 recipients per PM?!)

Anyway, I liked this scenario a lot, back when I played it in 2003 and would love to play it with humans. At the moment it looks like Phoenix_Fire91 has lost interest, so with your permission I would like to volunteer as host for this one. Anyone who's still interested, please report back to me, and then we'll start the game in two weeks (December 13th). Any free positions will be filled by AI.

Open questions I'd like to discuss:

What difficulty level would you like for the AI? I'm currently playing another PBEM (Rise of Japan) and here the AI is set to Regent and offers absolutely no challenge at all...
I would be fine with Emperor, but if someone would feel uncomfortable with that, we could try monarch?!

I would like to be one of the South-American tribes. (Like to be the underdog... :)). I'll try this scenario a bit over the weekend (has been so long ago since I last played it...) and then I'll pick one of the three.
Edit: At the moment I tend towards the Mayas, as they have the best UU, but this starting position really looks hopeless, so I may change my mind and take one of the other two?!
Second Edit: Ok. changed my mind and will try the Aztecs now...

So far two or three have signed up for Portugal, but assuming that Phoenix dropped out, Spain would be free again. So how about Defacto takes Spain?

Here is now the final roster:

  • Aztec - Lanzelot (Host)
  • England - Eclipse4449
  • France - muzbang
  • Portugal - TomBxx
  • Dutch - AI
  • Maya - AI
  • Inca - AI
  • Spain - Hawklord

And last but not least: please sign up only if you are determined to play this game until the "bitter end". If you can't be 100% sure that you'll stay the distance and play without too much delay, then please don't join. PBEM is a lot of fun (especially with the human-to-human diplomacy), but if one of the players drops out or delays every turn for a week, it spoils all the fun for the rest.
I propose the rule that if someone can't play for more than 3 days, then he should announce it here, so the others know. And if someone can't play for more than a week, he should try and find a substitute for that time.

Thanks for your interest,
Lanzelot

The Age of Discovery has started!

Update: Hawklord replaced Defacto during turn 2.

If you would like another player here I'd be glad to take an available slot.

England, Portugal or Dutch looks good, in that order of preference or any

In case anybody wants to take a look at the map before we start this, please note: this is the multi-player version of the scenario, which is slightly different from the single-player version. In your C3C installation just look for the corresponding .biq file that starts with "MP". (I think in the "Conquests" sub-folder, instead of in "Scenarios".)

Good,

I'm waiting for the Conquest of Paradise. :D
I can try to get some Brazilians to play...

Defacto

Good,

my friend can play with England or Portugal if you have one slot available.

Defacto

So far wxwindmill and jean have not reported back, so there are chances they are not interested. However, Eclipse has "earlier rights" to one of these spots, if one of them becomes available. Would your friend be willing to take the Dutch as well?

Cheers, Lanzelot

Ok, the game has started!

GPS to TomBxx.

Have fun! I hope everyone will enjoy this game, even though only one can win. (But we'll all win in experience...!)

Lanzelot could you do me a temporary favor? post #28 is our reference post, can you add a link to it on your Signature? I could do it on mine but you just might want the reference yourself.

We don't have discussed of rules of the game.
It's seems important.
I have played several pebm on this age of discovery scenario, and special rules must be added i think.

- The war in the starting european territories.
I think must be forbiden (if all are ok). Because if you loose your capital, it can be moved to one of the colony... and then it's really easy to bring back treasures to that new capital (no sea transport of that treasure... no danger to be captured).

SO capital must not change...

- The exploitation of the ressources.
The most important rule !!!
Because you can built 6 city arround 1 unique ressource, and then built 6 city improvement that will generate treasures...
With one ressource, you can have 6 city exploiting and producing....

Shema : 0 : ressource, T town
XTXTX
XXXXX
TX0XT
XXXXX
XTXTX

I think a such method is quite ingenious, but not fair... So i propose to fobid it.
The interest of the game is to find max of ressource, not to over exploit 1 or 2 of them.

- the naval bridges
this is possible to make 1 unit to cross the map form part to part, if naval transport are well placed...
We have to decide if it is allowed or not.
For this, i think we can allow it because its hard to have enough naval transport to do big bridges. And moreover, its hard to protect that bridge.... so, as there are corsair vessels, we can easyly cut the brige.

So, i think we can discus and set the rules ... the soonner is better.

I will play after work...
