Age of Discovery PBEM

Hawklord told me there was some confusion about the turn numbering. (Looks like we have that in every game... ). I'm pretty sure that the turn I just started, is turn #13. When it comes round to me next time, I'll increment the number to #14.

So everyone just copies the number from his predecessor, and I'm the one who needs to start the next one. That way we should be able to avoid confusion.

And ok, so it's final: AI trading is allowed! And keep in mind: the AI is quite powerful in this game, so try to "leverage/manipulate" it skillfully.

Cheers, Lanzelot

Ok, i've done a mistake precedent turn (naming turn 13 - 1501 instead of turn 12 -1501);
now its turn 13 -1502
I will play after work.

Re trading techs with the AI - I read the ground rules in the first post on this thread and missed/forgot Lanzelot's clarification.

Thanks for bringing up Muzbang, gives me some extra trading partners!

of course, first post is quite confusing :crazyeye:

It seems that the rules in this post are not the one we adopted...

turn 13 1502 Hehe

I've always wonder why the combination of GPSing and turn numbers are significant. GPS tells everyone that the turn has moved on to the next player, the game by default applies the correct year and this particular game increasing the year by one which gives you a way to check it by observing the last turns year you have. The turn number is essentially added when the date progresses by months or several months as opposed to increasing by the year. But I play along anyway.

I have discovered that the English possessed a ship in these times named "Discovery" and have promptly named one of my ships this excellent name. In this scenario I believe ships will play a significant role therefore naming these ships feels like the right thing to do. If my "Discovery" is was sunk it will mean more to me than just one of my galleons or what ever type it was.

Also (LoL) I sent an "Explorer" the the New World and found that "John Smith" in fact was an Explorer and so now I have an Explorer named John Smith (Pocahontas), Well thats really unimportant and I'm not intending to rename ever unit but I think significant units will be named to add some personality to England beyond what can be done within the limits of civ3 mechanics.
I personally wish I could have had a hand in designing the Diplomacy functions in this game an example of this is the 20 year agreement, why just 20 years, what if I want only 11 or 4, are you guys open to going beyond the limitation of the game. I know some things like trading resources will be set to this 20 year rule, that can not be helped but there is a huge dynamic normally not used in these games, another example would be the trade of a tech in exchange for a task performed and that task is only limited by your imagination.

It is up to you I am just as willing to give a battle report consisting of 4/4 Knight vs 4/4 Pikeman = 3/4 Knight vs 0/4 Pikeman, I'm also willing to draw Sir William of Dublin's sword and battle the Pike caring Donovan of ******

I'm still mad I have only one settlement in the New World and Spain has 2 colonies and have had them for quite some time no less. My serfs will pay for that I tell you.

I aggree with Eclipse. Doing diplomacy beyond what the F4-screen provides, is a major fun factor of playing Civ3 with Humans! Just use email and your imagination and trading will be lifted to a new dimension beyond simple "game mechanics"... :D

After the Englishman named John Smith we now sight a beautiful Spanish canoe visiting the Aztecan shores. Lanzezuma wonders whether some day his people will as well have boats like this for fishing. For now he welcomes his guests and offers them food, fruits and a place to rest after the long journey!

Our conquistador destroys a native village, steals the gold and heads over the mountains. Only to find French and English troops all over the place. The villagers who were out hunting will be over to see you soon. They will ask why you destroyed their homes, probably with arrows. We hope you have a good answer for them.

Emperor Moctezuma greats Queen Isabella and would like to ask for a favor:
If Her Majesty would be so kind to instruct Senior Colombo to protect one of our helpless citizens from ferocious barbarians, we would be very grateful for this kind cooperation!

An Aztecan scout finally meets the Incan People! But unfortunately all their gold is gone?! Looks like they met Portugal already before me... :(
