Yesterday I found on Hotline the 2 following new games: Cossacks and The 3 Kingdoms:Fate of the Dragon.

I haven't had time to try them (because of gotm 6 ) but they looked pretty cool. They're both AoE-like, with very cute graphics. If anyone have tried them, tell me. It seems that FoD is quite slow, though.

I haven't played either, but in reviews I've seen Cossacks is supposed to be pretty bad, well acceptable but not as good as AoE. I played the demo, the graphics were nice, but I didn't notice anything special.

When Age of Mythology comes out, it might be the real AoE successor.

The real Aoe successor is Age of Mythology but the same development team is making star wars battleground as well.

Cossacks is abit different to AOE because you command much larger armies and 3 kingdoms is set in China and is very similar to AOE but it has magic asa well. One or two of the units sound impressive like you can attach troops to large kites which can then fly into enemy bases!

Thanks for the comment. I've got them on Hotline but lack of time didn't tried them. And slipping off topic from my own thread to another kind (global strategy), have you played Shogun Total War? Yes? No? Dunno? Good? Bad? Ugly?

For some reason I just haven't got round to playing it I almost brought it once but I got something else in the end I think. I have read reviews of it and its expansion pack and it sounds really good. Its a cross between 3D real time fighting and turn based strategy. It uses alot of tactics and I think I will get it when they start selling the expansion pack with the original game

This sounds like lots of fun! Is Fate of the Dragon out already?

Yep your right! Did you get fate of the dragon by downloading it for free or something because thats what it kind of sounds like in your last post and if so where did you get it?

Its not a good idea to talk on Messenger at the moment since its still not working for me. I think they are upgrading it or something but it really pisses me off that they didn't give anyone any priopr warning. I will add you to my contacts list when I can.
My MSN address is: Dell19_WB@Hotmail.com
but at the moment try contacting me at Daveb@lindab.freeserve.co.uk

BTW My computer is not actually made by Dell. Its a long story.

I had to register a new account so if anyone now wants to contact me its: Dell19_UG@hotmail.com

Back to what was said earlier in this thread about Cossacks. Sorry but Cossacks treads AoE right into the dirt. It may look like AoE but everything about it is 100 times better. The AI and complexity of the thing for starters as well as the graphics. The historic details are, on the whole, right which makes it far more enjoyable for people like me who are history junkies. By comparison AoE is sadly sanitised for the US market. I'll admit that I get off on the military history of the period that Cossacks is set in (17th and 18th centuries) plus the Napoleonic period just after, more than any other so I guess I was bound to go for it.

Thanks Gengis. Now that I have Civ2 working again for Win2000 on my new computer I'm looking forward to making lots of contributions. I hope to get my library of scenarios loaded up as well too. I purchased Civ2 in France on the first day it came out (about 2 months before the UK) and I've been hooked ever since. Somehow my life has been incomplete without it for the past six months since my old computer finally gave out.

btw the new machine is a Dell and really does the biz. I'm afraid I disagree on that one. It does a fantastic job with the intro to Cossacks, which for those who haven't seen it, go see (it's almost worth getting the game just for that)

Anyway Friday evening beckons, time for a

I still like AOk more. I find it more fun managing a small army and making it successful rather than building huge armies.

AoE is one of greatest games ever. I and my friends played it at internet cafes or at internet without bored. but cossacks is a little boring after a few days playing. it's playiability is low. but cossacks has some good properties, like huge armies. AoE has 200 population limit, but at cossacks u can build and control 1000s of soldiers. And groupping units is a good feature. But game is not dependenciable. Play AoE.....the conq.exp.
And sho-gun is a great game. i have some problems with game (game has two CDs, and my Pc give error messages when the game needs CD change). But game is wonderful. ninja's are my favourite units..

btw Cossacks add-on with an official editor (not the hidden one in Ukranian) should be out around the same time as Civ3. This should kill any boredom factor in Cossacks (although I pity you Dell19, you must be bored of life or playing the thing 24seven). The idea of building scenarios in Cossacks will be superb, personally I think doing the English Civil War could have lots of potential (using the Swedes as the Roundheads)

Bottom line: 200 does not an army make. 4000 does

Actually I have stopped playing AOK amost now because I burned out of it and Unreal tournament has a lot more action in it...
