Im the Mongols and im the dominating force in the game. I already wiped the Iroqious off the contintent to a one island city. I decide to attack the Aztecs. They come at me with hordes of units and i am only able to take a bunch of outer cities. I decide to end the war after the capture of Tenochitlan (with Sun Tzu's) So: I mount my "taskforce" (4 cavs, 3 keshiks, 2 crusaders, and a musket for defense). The best unit showing in Teno is a vet pike.

Cav 1- dies to vet pike after inflicting 2 hp (he died because his last movement point was attack, he was a late arrival)

cav 2- retreats, no damage done to vet pike

cav 3- dies after redlining vet pike...

cav 4- retreats doing no damage to 3/5 pike

keshik 1- retreats doing no damage to reg pike

keshik 2- redlines reg pike and then dies horribly (after the first 2 hp lost, i knew he was a goner)

keshik 3- loses to vet spear after doing 1 damage...

crusader 1- dies to same 3/5 pike

crusader 2- dies to same 3/5 pike...

I am so frustrated at this point as half my army is decimated by a few pikes that i attack with the musket and he kills the 3/5 pike (....)

Before this attack i stage an attack on an Aztec island with a cav (vet) and two longbows (reg, rushed)

cav kills a spear and then the two lb's die without doing anything to the next spear... next turn cav redlines spear and dies..

I just decided to quit the game and become non-warmongering for a while

please not Teno was on flat ground, i was attacking from a mountain, no river. The island city was on a hill.

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool I Just Played In A Map Using China And I Used 4 Swordsmen To Try To Kill An Archer Outside A City And The Archer Killed My Swordsmen With 3 Hp Remaining! WTH?!?!?!?! I Was Even On A Hill!

I like that part of the story. :)
It happens all the time. Well-planned attacks fail miserably and desperate attempts succeed.
Of course, on the long run, you'll still have more success with well-planned attacks...
BTW, you might have had better success with some artillery. It's a shame so many people don't seem to use it at all.
The city would easily have been yours, had you replaced the 3 Cav by 7 trebuchets or 5-6 cannons. You can conquer many cities with few, low-end attackers, and taking very few casualties, if you have lots of artillery.
Example: a vet archer (not even a longbowman) has 62% chances of killing a redlined musketman defending a walled town (on flat terrain).

I agree, artillery some seem to be very much underrated. Its such a handy tool. I never move an army around or attack a town/city without some artillery peices on hand to lob some heavy stones, cannon shot or shells on top of some heads

You being on a hill does nothing...

That stories got to stink! I'd just reload, I'd be ticked off, and kill them with a passion! i'd not give up warmongering! :O

Here is another good one for you.
Playing with Persia I attack Shanghai on plains with 3 Immortals, one of them Elite, the other two Veterans + 2 Veteran Ancient Cavalry. The defence in Shanghai consists of 1 - one spearman.
My whole attacking force is annihilated...
However the good thing is that in the long run it evens out, and the unpredictability is one of the things that makes the game worth playing!

i was playing in a game once i had 4 modern armor ( yeah i had a cheat game... wanted to see how many tanks it would take to wipe out all the other civs ) 1 spearman took em all out.. redlined him but took all 4 of em out.
